tures a psycedelic Beatles sound.
On the whole this is a good album. The songs from an
instrumental standpoint are great. However, Stewart's
vocal range is extremely limited which leaves some of the
cuts a bit flat. Even with this problem, though, Honest gives
the listener a good taste of Dave Stewart & The Spiritual
Cowboys' excellent musical talents.

Porn Orchard
Urges and Angers/(C/Z Records)
It has been quite awhile since Athens' own Porn Or
chard have released a sizeable amount of their very own
hard — more competent than most — jazz core. While
keeping extremely low profiles, they have recorded Urges
and Angers on Seattle's C/Z Records, which will be re
leased sometime this fall. For those that have not witnessed
the Porn Orchard spectacle, it can be said that they are one
of the most talented musical experiences Athens has to
offer. And the pre-release promo tape is a good indication
as to what direction Curtiss, Sam and Ted are seeking to
achieve. As to what direction, I cannot really explain,
except that it is a blunt and in you face — confrontational
maelstrom of auditory aggression. Urges and Angers is the
first song in which the guitar and drums explode simultane
ously, only to stop as Ted's two bass chords pummel you
with vicious clarity. This song and the instrumental "Unar-
mored" are full-tilt compositions pushing the boundaries of
Porn Orchard's unique jazz influenced grind to a more
distinct level that introduces a kaleidoscope of musical and
lyrical dexterity.

Fugazi
Steady Diet of Nothing /(Dischord)
Anticipation...The game. Waiting impatiently. Fugazi; a
solely, remarkable formula of music and attitude. A simple
formula they have honed and refined to perfection.
Brendan; tense calculation and precision. The strain
ing, bending guitars seeking the definitive note. Joe Lally;
his bass — the glue; the ambiguity of Guy and Ian —
commanding and pleaair.g. From the first chords of "Exit
Only’ to the furious political siap of “Dear Justice Letter,"
Fugazi has served exactly what the title states; asteady diet
of lean, sharp, crisp hardcore. “Reclamation" is the best
example as it begins with a fast, repetitive riff that roller
coasters down to a slower, more sublime rhythm, only to
build into a violent, physical crescendo that stops as
quickly as it begins.
Fugazi continues to shun corporate label attention,
while continuing to produce some of the most unique and
straight-forward music, of which “Steady Diet of Nothing" is
no exception. John Mincemoyer

“You And Me Babe" (Pleasure)
Vambo Marbie Eye (D-)
"Half Step To Your One" b/w “Seventh St." (City Slang)
If you think getting free records sent to you is fun, think
again. These five were sent to Flagpole HQ, and they all
more or less suck. Geezer Lake's single is halfway decent
- a well-played but uninspired grundgy 7". Slowchange Ma
dagascar showed some glimmer of hope with the name
and packaging giving me the impression of something
similar to Savage Republic, but is, alas, cheesy folk rock.
Reversing Hour hails from Atlanta and, like most Atlanta
bands, they're pretty lousy. Boring goth-rock. The back
cover says "play loud", which is pretty funny, but, let's face
it, the only band that can get away with the word "employ"
in a song title is Bad Religion. Roger White’s A-side is a
great Jimmy Buffett imitation, but the flip shows him as an
able, if tacky, C&W singer. Vambo Marble Eye’s lyrics
absolutely make me want to gag. I wish I could remember
them just to annoy y’all. Really bad CHR stuff.
Bags (D+)
“L. Frank Baum’ b/w “Max Roach" (Stanton Park)
Johnny and the Jumper Cables (D-)
"Kielbasa"
b/w "Georgia Skinheads (Must Die)' (Stanton Park)
The copyright notice on these two single say 1991, but
I’m leaning toward '84 or '85 since both of these contain
really awful pseudo-heavy metal garbage complete with
eunuch-like falsettos, very cheesy guitar solos, and really
stupid lyrics. The Bags (definitely not the L A. early 80’s
punk band o the same name) show a bit of promise with the
instrumental "Max Roach", which appeased me a little bit.
The most rational reason why these records were even sent
to us from the fine state of Massachusetts is that us rurai
hicks would be offended somewhat by the Jumper Cables’
song "Georgia Skinheads". Of course, the joke's on them
since there’s only a smattering of them here. Most overt
racists of course are going for overalls, Red Man, and bad
haircuts; the covert ones hide in glitzy offices, suburban
homes, or call themselves PC (face it, being politically
correct is a charade to avoid being honest. Come on, admit
it!). I’m not particularly hurt, besides, their music sucks!

The Daisy Group Sings The Hum Of Life ?"ep
(Planned Obsolescence)
After the above mound of trash, it’s nice to hear some
thing that’s good for a change. By now you’ve heard the
buzzy “Hum of Life’ on 90.5FM or at their live shows, and
the song benefits by it’s release on vinyl - it gives it that extra
chutzpah, y’know? The other two songs aren’t quite as
enthralling and tend to drag a bit, but you can relax to them.
Nice sound to it all, and, yeah, it’s recommended.

Down on B-Street
Athens contains an Easy Street a Normal Avenue, a Wanassed Street (likely the only one), a Farbstein Alley (likewise),
and it used to have a States’ Rights Avenue, but that’s now Peabody Street. Or Henderson Avenue. There is also a First
Street, as well as a Second, Third, Fourth, and Fifth. But letters lose out; there is no “A* Street, quotes or not. The B-Street
Comics appear at The Georgia Theatre on Monday, October 7. If you find out what city they mean, lemme know, wouldja?
Three more blocks and you get a Shuffle, but that’s another story entirely.
