Daily 2:20/4:50/7:20/9:50
Goodman has never been better. This is not a
light entertainment, but if you miss it. you can't be
cool.
Ricochet (R)
Daily 2:00/4:30/7:00/9:30
Denzel Wash ington and John LI thgow h ave done
much good work in the past, and they’re not bad
here, but this Joel Silver pic is short on action and
long on nastiness. Lithgow's bad guy antics
aren’t particularly inventive, they’re just ugly,
and after an hour and a half of them the payoff
isn’t much either.
The Taking of Beverly Hills (R)
Mon - Fri 4:30/7:20/9:50.
Sat & Sun 2:05/4:30/7:20/9:50
Interminable. Its one of those movies with a lush
piano and strings score that NEVER ENDS, not
two seconds in this film its unaccompanied by it.
If that, and wise-beyond-their-years children are
your idea of a good time. hmmm. go ahead

4 20/7 00/9 20
Director Kenneth
Branagh and screen
writer Scott Frank
realize that that no
matter how many plot
twists are thrown in
(and they throw in
plenty), an attentive
audience just won’t be
fooled. Instead they
leave a crafty trail of
can't-miss clues and in-jokes that make this a
film to be carefully watched, rather than sat-
through Its all great fun. and I’m not Roman
either
Don’t bother. Goldie Hawn, seems to have been
strung out on codeine throughout the entire
shoot, setting a pace that grinds the picture to a
halt. The plot holes and the the film’s tired climax
don’t help either.
Ernest Scared Stupid (PG)
Daily 2:00/4:30
7:00/9:30
There’s precious little here for fully functioning
adults. I think Ernest's previousfilms have proven
he’s best taken in thirty-second doses And yet.
the kids at the screening I attended were having
Al Pacino and Michelle Renter scatter, smother and cover each other in Frankie & Johnny. A case
where burgers and romance truly go hand in hand....
a fine old time, and I can imagine my nine year-
old self doing the same
Frankie and Johnny (R)
Sat & Sun 2:45 Daily 5:10/7.45/9:45
It’s about time terrorists attacked 8everly Hills.

Terminator 2 (R)
Mon - Thur 4:50/8:00 Sat & Sun 2 15/4:50/8 00

rarely succeeded more perfectly Hurry, it ends

Daily 7 00/9 20
Ignore it and it will go away.
The Fisher King (R)
Daily 6 45/9 30
Director Terry Gilliam has made a habit of
savaging the wicked modern world, but The
Fisher King goes one step further Its not merely
about losing one's soul, but saving it Robin
Williams is a street lunatic and Jeff Bridges is a
wayward DJ who meet on the streets of New
York, realize they have some things in common,
and recognize the restorative power of the Holy
Grail Its about time somebody did
Daily 2 10/4 40/7 10/9 40
Pretty Woman director Gary Marshall has created
a love story that is touching and realistic, without
being syrupy and sentimental It is by turns
subtle and heavy handed, but the terrific cast is
enough to put the whole effort over the top Ai
Pacino and Michelle Pfeiffer handle tneir
respective desperation and anguish admirably
The supporting cast (Hector Elizondo and Jane
Morris in particular) lends the picture an anchor
of credibility We'll be hearing from this one
come Oscar® time
Shattered (R)
Daily 2:30/5 00/7 30/10 00
Director Wolfgang Petersen seems to have made
all the mistake Kenneth Branagh didn’t with
Dead Again. This whole picture hinges on its
audience being "blown away" by its surprise
ending, which is unfortunately predictable to
anyone after the first twenty minutes In both
Shattered and Dead Again audiences go in
ready for a thnller/mystery and accordingly, try
to figure out the ending Where Branagh
entertains his audience, Petersen tries only to
fool them

Barton Fink (R)
Daily 2 10/4 40/7 30/10 00
Barton Fink is the must-see picture in Athens
The new one from the Coen brothers (who made
last year’s great film Miller's Crossing)is hilarious,
disturbing, impossible to take your eyes off of.
and downright bewildering. John Turturro carries
the picture beautifully, and the very good John
