Abusers. Mary Bricker-Jenkins, author of
Feminist Social Work Practice in Clinical Set
tings, will give a lecture entitled 'Women
Who Abuse Their Children: a Feminist Re
search Perspective,' Monday, Feb. 6, at 7

Food The Athens Food & Wine Circle is at it
again. The members celebrate wine and pro
vide novice and experienced wine lovers a
chance to learn through their shared interest in
wine and food. They host wine tastings, dinners
and speakers, and they present their own 'Clas
sic City Wine Course' — a six-week, six-session
course that combines weekly wine tastings with
a good introduction to the appreciation of wine.
The course covers everything from wine history
and culture, reading wine labels and wine lists,
choosing and purchasing wines, a discussion of
classic wines and styles of the world, and the
art of wine tasting. A new course is starting soon,
so if you want more info on the group or the

More. A Taste of Athens is Community
Connection's major annuel fund-raiser; Commu
nity Connection is an infermation and referral
service that puts people in touch with social ser
vice agencies, child care resources, mental
health agencies, volunteer opportunities and
more in 11 counties in htortheari Georgia. About
350 Athenians attended last year's Taste of Ath
ens, making that first event a big success. This
year, you can expect great food from about 30
local restaurants and food service businesses,
wines from four purveyors, and the buzz of lively
conversation. A Taste of Athens takes place at
Trumps at the Georgian Hotel Sunday, Feb. 5.
Tickets are available through Community Con
nection or at the door the evening of the event.

Auction. The Student Chapter of the Ameri
can Veterinary Medical Association at the
UGA College of Veterinary Medicine spon
sors its second annual auction Friday, Jan.
27, in room H237 of the College of Veteri
nary Medicine at 7 p.m. Merchandise will
be displayed at a pre-auction reception at

Resuscitation. The East Georgia Chapter
of the American Red Cross is offering the
following classes in January and February:
Jan. 24 & 26, 6- 10 p.m.: Adult/Child CPR;
Jan. 28, 9 a.m.- 6 p.m.: Standard First Aid;
Feb. 3, 6-10 p.m.: CPR for the professional

Islam Symposium. Egyptian Ambassador
Ahmed Maher El Sayed will join other schol
ars and experts at UGA for the 'Cultures in
Conflict' symposium Jan. 18-20 in the
Mahler Auditorium of the Georgia Center.
The conference, which is free and open to
the public, will open Jan. 18 at 8 p.m. The

Spellbinding. Hypnotist Tom Deluca will
perform at the Tate Center's Georgia Hall

Fashion. The Hearts of Fashion show will
be held at the Athens Country Club Feb. 9

handcrafted items by local artists and fiber
craftspersons. Proceeds go to the Lyndon

seeks to preserve Native American culture
by playing the traditional sport Toli. Any
