PERFORMANCE
Hypnotist Tom Deluca will perform at the Tate
Center’s Georgia Hall at 7:30 p.m. Students: $2,
Non: S4. Tickets available at the cashier’s win
dow.
MUSIC
Atticus Flinch
(Frijoleros) loud stuff with some interesting
poppier antecedents; these guys should play
around here more often
Aviso
(Frijoleros) new band in town featuring Mary
Beth Beckett (of the much lamented Basement
Saint); since I have no idea what this'll sound like,
take my word that Ms. Beckett is a damn fine
vocalist and, if anything, it'll be different
Catfish Jenkins
(Georgia Theatre) groove-rock stuff that packs
'em in every time; have recently released
Normaltown on Kudzu Records
"Dude of Life"
(Georgia Theatre) singer (?)/songwriter (?) who
followed Phish around and occasionally opened
their shows; I don't know much more about this
other than it's probably pretty loopy; you're on
your own, kid
Greg Holyfleld
(Allen's) acoustic country covers & originals;
whether or not that sounds like an endorsement
is MY business, but this guy is for real (i.e. highly
recommended)
Tom Smith
(DTs Downunder) I want to say I saw this guy at
Allen's once playing between Bryan Burke sets;
acoustic originals with some odd covers thrown
in for good measure
Warren Southall
(Lowery's)acoustic covers & originals, and I think
Warren is also hosting open mike night
MUSIC
The Buzz
(Buzzard's Roost) are supposed to be releasing
a CD soon recorded at Furry Vault studio pro
duced with Andy LeMaster. Hmmm
Dashboard Saviors
(Atomic Musk Hall) just seconds before I typed
this, via the promo fairy, I re
ceived the new Saviors cas
sette love sorrow hate mad
ness; suffice to say it’s brilliant,
and, frankly, you need to see
these guys to get the full mes
sage; do not miss this, friend
Dolce Sudore
(City Bar) interesting new
project featuring Dana Downs
(ex-Cryin' Cowgirls, BIO), Doug
Stanley (Helium Kidz), Tim
Adams & Pat Patterson (BIO, I
think); if you haven't heard (or
for that matter, purchased) the •
new single out featuring Dana
& Doug, you need to do so;
maybe they decided to keep
that sitar solo
Paul Lombard
(Atomic Music Hall) acoustic-
based singer/songwriter
(y'know, he’s also in
Candlelionjwho'll be opening
for the Saviors; according to
Paul, this is material spanning
the last 12 years, so. hell, it
should be interesting
Jonathon Rich man
(40 Watt) Child-like. Naive. Bizarro folk-pop waif.
Whatever. Richman defies any description I could
give him, but what you'll find here is something
close to genius. If you're lucky maybe he'll do
part of Ns set in Spanish.
Usa Majersky
(40 Watt) sort of a Southern Gothic female ver
sion of Mr. Richman, Ms. Majersky will be re
leasing her indie CD Rational Geophobic very
soon (if it ain't already out there); apparently,
she’s backed by members of the Go Figures and
the Dashboard Saviors. Should be interesting.
For more info on the CD, contact Box 6774, Ath
ens GA 60604
Lonely White Boys
(High Hat Blues Qub) blues & R&B infused rock
stuff featuring Buren Fowler, Drew Worsham,
Rick Fowler & Greg Veale
Nathan Sheppard Band
(DTs Downunder) sort of Neil Young-y mixed with
a little Gram Parsons, this is country-ish rock stuff
with heavy emphasis on THE SONGS.
Patterson Hood
fFrijoleros) acoustic singer/songwriter
Possibilities
(Frijoleros) combine slammin' 'Mats-ish slack &
roll with high & lonesome material that would
make George Jones proud. Wait'll you see
Kevin's hand-painted acoustic. Ouch.
Pseudo
(Lower/s)a lot of '80s retro-stuff (Tommy Tutone,
Kool & the Gang) mixed with more mainstream
'alternative' material
Scattering
IBuzzard's Roost) touch on a little bit of every
thing in (hence the name?), you're likely to hear
more R&B kind of stuff, rock and probably some
fuslon-y jazz
V. Kemp Jones
(Buzzard's Roost) singer/songwriter who does
acoustic-based stuff; solid songs with better
than average vocalizing
