Dear Editor:
I have read with fascination Mr. Pilvinsky's drivel on
Fugazi. What Mr. Pilvinsky is up to in the piece, only he
can tell. Since when did a review of a band warrant a mo
rn!.v check? Does Mr. Pilvinsky want to nominate Fugazi
-'j Nobel Peace Prize? After describing Fugazi's prote
ct at one show, Mr. Pilvinsky sums up the band's puta
tive slogan: “Hate has no business at a Fugazi show.’ ;
Hate? Are you sure you want to use that word? Read your
piece again, slick; perhaps you wanted to use the word
“drunkenness,” because that is simply what you described.
Mr. Pilvinsky also struggles to depict Fugazi as “just
guys," and I suppose we readers are to be relieved that
they are indeed "just guys," and not... what? Again the
fascination kicked in. In his attempt to avoid reifying
Fugazi, Mr. Pilvinsky selects “a neat little window' which
is supposed to temper our perception of the band. An
other failure. Besides that incredibly trite expression, Mr.
Pilvinsky succumbs to the navel gazing that many music
writers deploy in order to market music. If nis intent was
not to reify Fugazi, then why did he include an account of
his fixed interest in the band when he was a teenager?, an
age where it seems inevitable to glorify bands. Mr.
Pilvinsky contradicts himself hopelessly.
Fugazi plays crucial music. That’s important for
people who listen to music critically. If Mr. Pilvinsky wants
to audit bands for morals, then he should write for
Hazeiden, but he ought to take a writing class first.

Dearest Mr. Sanchez-Aballi.
Thank you for your thoughtful words of encourage
ment. You have shown me the error of my ways, and I
intend to completely change my lifestyle just as soon as I
finish watching "Baywatch" later this evening. I just can't
thank you enough.

My nomination for a language to replace English is
PCese. that undiscriminating multicultural hybrid cur
rently employed by Guest Editors nationwide. PCese al
lows the user to adopt code-words such as intelligent,
equality and enlightened while conveying a meaning in
direct opposition to its definition. Proponents of the dia
lect have reached an impasse, however, in developing an
alternative inference for the word hypocrisy.

Dear Flagpole: InMemoriam
I, too, was dismayed, as was Pete McCommons,
when, at 6 p.m. this past Monday evening, the Bridge left
the air. I had just returned to my place of work from a trip
to South Carolina and had turned on the radio for the trip
home and had heard nothing, if it was even mentioned,
about the station leaving the air. As usual, as I listened to
the several songs that I heard before the end came, I was
amazed at the music selection. I was constantly intrigued,
amused and excited by the music selection, in my esti
mation, the best selection to be heard, not only in Athens,
but for miles around.
Please tell me what *.. .the unacceptability of the rock
and roll format to the station’s former listeners" should
have with the decision to change the format back to coun
try. The country format was obviously not a successful
direction for the station prior to the Bridge. I had not even
heard of WMOQ before the Bridge came on the air. I find
it hard to believe that pressure from the Bostwickians and
the Good Hope-ites played a part in this decision. Al
though located in their backyards, this station did not
belong to them: it belonged to the listening area. The north
Georgia area already has an abundance of country sta
tions, spanning the genre from the “new" country to mixes
of the traditional and new, all with good signal strength in
this area. But one thing we don’t have anymore is the
selection of music offered by the Bridge.
Everyone that I have spoken to, to a person, had found
a new. favorite radio station in the Bridge. And even though
the station came across as somewhat “unpolished" at
times, that was part of the charm. I would like to think that
the Bridge will re-surface, at some point, at some loca
tion on my radio dial.

Dear Editor:
I was surprised when I woke up on Tuesday, Apn, 2,
and found my favorite radio station WMOQ had rudely
been disconnected. I was appalled later in the day when I
found it was pulled because possibly it had offended a
group of closed-minded individuals who live in the Good
Hope area. I was told by a reliable source that the owner,
a Benny Ray Anderson, had pulled the plug because of
pressure from some citizens in that fair city.
In the issue of fairness, it may be just possible that
the station closed for lack of funds but this seems un
likely due to the suddenness of the event. If WMOQ was
experiencing monetary difficulties, then it stands to rea
son that they might have tried other avenues before shut
ting down. Also, why would a radio station just disappear
overnight?
I invite Mr. Anderson to explain this in a public fo
rum so that we will know what killed this great station.
Was it lack of money or lack of backbone?
