WEDNESDAY,
APRIL 24
Drip (Atomic Music Hall) Andy LeMaster
and the boys just recorded six new songs
as sort of pre-production lor their next
full-length album. Needless to say, it's
incredible. There's something just wrong
with these guys, but in the best possible
way! I can hardly think of a better bill than
Drip with Elf Power. 11 p.m.
Elf Power (Atomic Music Hall) The core
of Elf Power lived here for a few months,
released the incredible Clutching Vainly
al Phantom Limbs LP, and has since
moved on to New Yawk. Well, the record
has been re-released by the local Drug
Racer label, and Elf Power is stopping
by for another visit. They're likely to be
joined tonight by local kingpins Ballard
Lesemann and Brian Poole, and you are
duly advised to get there early to check
out Drip. See article on Page 22. Midnight.
J’s Variety (High Hat) Seeing as how
half of this duo is moving on to the Mo
tor City pretty soon, it looks like Jts Vari
ety will be calling it quits in the next few
weeks. Check out their old-timey, down-
home porch music while you can. Open
ing for Marlee MacLeod. 9:30 p.m.
Land Speeder (40 Watt) Serious chunk
metal. They’re young, they’ve got the
Black Sabbath-meels-Slayer-meets-Hay-
ride thing down pat, and they blow things
up on stage. Need I say more? SciFu
opens.
Leftover Salmon (Georgia Theatre)
Polyethnic Cajun slamgrass. Ills a huge
melting pot of musical styles, and in this
context, it all kinda makes sense.
McGraw Gap opens.
Marlee MacLeod (High Hal) The former
Athenian (and current, urn, Minneapolite?)
returns for another round of great acous
tic country-tinged folk. If you don't own
Favorite Ball & Chain yet, plunk down
those 12 bucks and give it a spin.
McGraw Gap (Georgia Theatre) Open
ing for Leftover Salmon.
Mr. Pitiful (Half Moon Pub) Blues ban
dits.
Will Rehburg (Allen's) Acoustic covers
and originals. Country and Southern rock.
Sandfly (Allen’s) Harmony-driven
Southern rock, with some classic rock
covers.
SciFa (40 Watt) Hardcore metal, a lot
like Slayer's upcoming Undisputed Atti
tude record (which is all-covers of early
'80s punk songs). See article on Page
25. Opening for Land Speeder.
Uaderwaterfall (DT's Down Under)
Uptempo, danceable, soda funky groove-
rock.
THURSDAY,
APRIL 25
Angie Apicola (Half Moon Pub) Mu
sic, I’m sure.
Apenas Atenas (City Bar) Brazilian-fla
vored, rhythmic reggae, funk, and more.
Josh Joplin Band (Georgia Theatre)
Opening for Memory Dean.
Kip Jones (Allen's) Mostly covers —
Neil Young, The Band, etc. Funky folk
music.
Kingfish (High Hat) Muddy Waters, 3.B.
King, etc.
May (Atomic Music Hall) Low meets My
Bloody Valentine. It’s very effects-ori-
ented, but there are clearly some strong
songs underneath the wash ol guitar ef
fects. Aviso* bassist. Jarrod Winter, plays
drums in this band. Midnight.
Memory Dean (Georgia Theatre) Fast-
paced, upbeat acoustic rock. This band is
a lot of fun. They just released a new CD.
with some great Howard Finster artwork on
the covet The Josh Joplin Band opens.
Michael (40 Watt) This is ttie 7-inch
release party for the "Wide AwakeTPo-
tentiar single. They're both great songs,
and it’s cool to see Michael finally re
leasing something — it's been a while.
See article on Page 23.
Now Denial (Atomic Music Hall) Mu
sic for the '90s, as seen by those late '80s
Brilpop bands. Playing with May. 11 p.m.
Phat Phive (High Hat) Heavy, funk-in
fused jazz.
Shoney, Sean & Graham (DTs Down
Under) A lot of covers, plus originals. Ev
erything Irom 311 to Phisli to the Chili
Peppers.
Thousand Faces (40 Watt) Opening for
the Michael 7-inch release party.
3 Richards (Roadhouse) Where metal,
hard rock, and the slightest bit of hip-
hop throw down.
FRIDAY,
APRIL 26
Aftermath (40 Watt) Boasting a line
up approaching 10 people, Aftermath
brings hip hop, rap, jazz, rock and metal
together in a way that skirts the edge of
plausibility and comes up a winner. The
band is smooth when it wants to be,
harsh when necessary, and wears a clever
path between the two extremes. Playing
with brothers-in-arms Prozak
Big Fish Ensemble (High Hat) Seeing
BFE members Michael Lorant and Sheila
Doyle play the BFE song "City of Sin" in
Austin last month was just plain amaz
ing. Lorant is a fine songwriter, and BFE
— one of the most vital bands in the At
lanta scene — is the band to lake him
places. Opening tor the Fuzzy Sprouts.
The Continentals (Atomic Music Hall)
Swingin' maestros of twang, featuring
Amy Pike. They run in the same circles
as the rest of the Atlanta Bubbapalooza
crowd, and are opening for Redneck
GReece.SeearticleonPage21.11 p.m.
EM Power (The Landfill) This is one of
two Elf Power shows this week — both
of which will probably be amazing. To
night they play with Vineland and Free-
masomy. Call 208-8823 for info.
The Fountains (DT* Down Under) Will
rock your world. They’re hard-working,
the nicest guys you’ll ever meet, and just
happen to be a simply fantastic band to
boot.
Freemasonry (The Landfill) They've
actually changed their name in the last
few months, but I can't for the life of me
think of what they’re called now. Sorry.
All I know is that these guys kicked some
major butt in the past, and tonight they’re
playing with Vineland and Elf Power. You
can't ask for a much cooler show than
this. Call 208-8823 for info.
Fuzzy Sprouts (High Hat) Their schizo
phrenic CD project should be ready in
the very near future, so keep yer eyes
peeled. BFE opens.
Kros Faze (Buzzard's Roost) Rock'n’roll
originals and covers (AC/DC, Skynyrd, etc.).
