FINAL SXSW DEADLINE: Kids, by the time
you read this (assuming you run feverishly to
snag a fresh Flagpole the very nanosecond it
hits the stands), you have just days to get yoa
final submissions in tor 5outh By Southwest '97.
The final deadline is Friday, Nov. 15, meaning if
you are in fact registering this late, your pun
ishment is having to pay $20 instead of $10
when submitting your demo and press kit —
big deal. However, you need to be expedient
in getting this done, so if you need an applica
tion, we have a healthy stack available at the
Flagpole office, and you need only to wander
in during office hours to get yours. Hear that
ticking sound? That's your career winding
down... get moving.
THE GIFT THAT KEEPS ON GIVING
(uh...): As you read this, the 1996 Flagpole
Cnristmas Album is available at (1) Big Shot,
(2) Wuxtry, (3) both Blockbuster locations (Alps
and East Side), and (4) from nice Mr. Hallauer
behind the desk at the Flagpole office on
Foundry Street. Be gentle to poor Mr. Hallauer;
he might be just waking up. A cursory listing
of artists? Tony Tidwell & The Scalded Dogs,
Trinket, Anne Richmond Boston, Sunbrain, the
Drive-By Truckers, Kcncak, Toenut, and The
Union along with 11 more bands. Consider this
one essential for your vast and comprehensive
CD collection, and console yourself in the
knowledge that the proceeds from the sale of
the album will go towards Community Con
nection and Project Safe. For further info con
tact us here at Flagpole or dial up http://
users.aol.com/rlhatlauer/home.htm.
MOA? STUFF: Cour
tesy of the fine folks at
Touch and Go, Man Or
Astroman? will be reis
suing their live magnum
opus Live Transmissions
From Uranus (recorded
at the fabulous Cov
ered Dish down in
Gainesville, Fla.) in t
roughly a month and ,
a half. For a band
whose actual full-
length albums can
sometimes blur
over into numbing
same-ness, this
particular record is
one damn fine docu
ment n 1 the spot where MOA? truly
shine: the stage. The now obligatory
MOA? touring scenario is (as always)
functioning in high gear, so I can al
most guarantee you a chance to see
them in some local venue in scant
weeks. (Regardless of that, you must
purchase this record.)
NOTES FROM THE LAST HOUSE:
Davis Causey has just wrapped up re
cording his first solo album Over Home pro
duced by Causey and Bob Jones both at his
hone studio (Last House Studio) and Tom
Lewis' Full Moon Studios, and has signed the
project to Jones' fledgling independent label
Vertex. Joining him during the recording amidst
his own multi-instrumental tracking were
drummer Joel Morris (Steve Dancz, Grant
McClennan, Randall Bramblett Band, countless
others) and bandmate and songwriting part
ner Randall Bramblett. Other than the two
aforementioned, the record is pretty much
Davis; expect a strong Celtic influence along
side Chet Atkins, a shade of Mark Knopfler’s
more elegaic
soundtrack work
and ample dex
terity in turning
an album of in
strumental music
into an album of
songs — not gym
nastics. Projected
^ release date is Dec.
