They're gonna make a pleasant
acket.
Butterfly Zen (DT's Down Under)

ad talked about playing with
Cookieman at the Tavern tonight,
out they got their own show in
stead. More later.
Cookieman (Washington Street
Tavern) The Cookieman boys will play
a short set of their own music, then
will invite the audience to come up

Bloodkin (High Hat) Good, song-
oriented Southern rock with a hint
of the classic Stones vibe. Check
out their new CD, Creeper Weed,
which details the end of civilization
by a worldwide vegeiation revolu
tion. It’s swell.
Covered Bridge (Atomic Music
Hall) Opening for Tornado Bait.
Grass Reunion (DT's Down Un
der) This has no relation to the
aforementioned Creeper Weed
vegetation domination of the world.
Or does it?
Hall of Fame (40 Watt) In addi
tion to a whole mess of new releases
(vinyl and otherwise), the Hall of Fame
Army is preparing at this very moment
for another |aw-dropping, knock-you-
on-yer-keister show. Be prepared.
See article on Page 16.
Orange Pussycat (40 Watt)
Pretty abrasive guitar-oriented
rock, with vocals that recall Paw or
Clockhammer, and music some
where in detuned Martians/Shellac/
Lost Man territory.
Quin Quo Quintet (Georgia Bar)
Jazz from 6-9 p.m.
The Simpletons (Lowery's) Reck
covers and originals.
Tornado Bait (Atomic Music Hall)
Formerly known as the Jimmy
Young band, they play bluesy in
strumental rock with guitarist Young
doing some fretboard gymnastics.
I like the name.
Vanessa Vego (40 Watt) Well, the
former Athenian has been busy
lately, what with recording with the
Dust Brothers (the uber-producers
of the Beastie Boys and many
more), moving from L A. to Chi
cago, and revamping her band
Grand Prix. Now she has the former
Kilidozer drummer working with her,
and tonight she's playing solo,
opening for Hall of Fame and Or
ange Pussycat.
Saturday,
November 30
Donkey (High Hat) Rock'n'roll.
The horn section is gone, but the
rock is still there.
Elf Power (Atomic Music Hall)
The Winter Hawk EP is out now, and
Elf Power is presumably working to
wards their next full-length record.
Last time I saw these guys, they
tore through an amazing version of
the Stones’ ‘Satisfaction' in addi
tion to a slew of their own warp-fac
tor folk-punk songs. Check 'em out.
Harry Carey (Atomic Music Hall)
Man, the Harry Carey Halloween
show was about the most fun I've
had at a club in too long These
guys expertly maneuver through a
minefield holding big 70s guitar
rock, comic relief a la Spinal Tap
and the best of the "serious’ punk/
metal bands of today — and they
come out unscraped! They're a hilari
ous blast of white-knuckle guitar
flailings and half-kidding metal poses,
and what's more - they rock.
Kinchafoonee Cowboys (Geor
gia Theatre) Three sets of country
covers and originals starting at 10
p.m.
Rachel ft Andy (DT’s Down Un
der) Alternately sweet & searing
covers.
Redneck GReece (40 Watt)
Country greasier than the Waffle
House at 4 a.m. For this show, Mr.
GReece will be joined by a whole
mess of his friends (including ex-
Hillbilly Frankenstein vocalist Alice
Berry). See interview on Page 16 for
more info.
Ralph Roddenberry ft Second
Hand (Georgia Bar) Second Hand
is Roddenberry's new band. They’ll
play a number of songs off of the
debut Second Hand CD, Fix Myself.
10 p.m.
Sacred Aliens (Allen's) This fea
tures local pianist extraordinaire
Joe Barnes with two former White
Buffalo members (Randy Durham
and ‘Crumpy’ Edwards) playing
Barnes’ melodic instrumentals.
The Simpletons (Lowery’s) Rock
covers and originals.

Songwriter’s Showcase (Ath
ens Brewing Company) Last week's
Showcase was a qualified slam-
bang success, and this week's
looks to be more of the same. Fea
tured performers are Jeff
Andrews (The Fountains). Jamie
Creech, Nathan Sheppard,
Doug Nissly and William Toi.ks
(Hot Burritos). This could become
something of a replacement for the
type of intimate acoustic shows the
much-missed Lulu's in Normaltown
used to host. Give i! your support.

Aftermath (40 Watt) Live hip-hop
from an ever-evolving collective in
cluding a violin player, sample ma
nipulator, keyboardist, some rap
pers, a drummer and more.
