• Tne Georgia Museum of Art hosts a fundraiser cocktaii buf
fet and art auct.on for the AIDS Coalition of Northeast Georgia
(ACNG) Saturday, Dec. 7. The art preview is at 6 p.m., the
silent auction is at 7 and the live auction is at 8.
Tickets are S25 per person ($15 for ACNG members) at the
door, or call the ACNG office at 542-AIDS. Auction sponsors
include jpole, National Distributing Company, Boneshakers,
R E M. and the Ryan VVh'te Northeast Georgia AIDS Consor
tium.
ACNG was incorporated as AIDS Athens in 1987. A generous
donation from the B-52s gave the organization an early finan
cial base. Today, ACNG is a non-profit, community-based
agency committed to meeting the needs of those affected bv
HIV and AIDS.
• Lamar Wood has exhibits at both ends of Clayton Stree* —
at the Bluebird Cafe and the Last Resort). At the Bluebird,
there s a small exhibit of oil posters — impressionistic land
scapes where the texture of the paper is allowed to contribute
to the overall surface and mood of the image. The blues, greens
and yellows are initially soothing, but on closer inspection, the
thick, heavy application of the medium seems to contradict
the initial assessment.
It is kind of relaxing to be able to gaze at these images and
meditate... until you notice your own reflection in the glass.
