H to wander up towards the big city to
hear some stuff decidedly left of the
Up usual humdrum you're probably listen-
■ ing to. Scheduled to perform (amidst
a number of other acts who are still
Jy being added even as you sit and read
this column over your morning diet of
straight vodka and a bagel) are (ahem)
^ To Live & Shave In L.A., Harry Pussy
■ (hmmm...), Simeon Taylor of the Sil
ver Apples, the Electric Eels (who are
■ re-fcrming for this show), Alva (who
B have worked extensively with
■ noisemeister John Zorn) and guitar
■ improvisationalist Dave Williams. Bring
your earplugs. Two Athens projects,
K Medaglia D'Oro and Dixie Blood
Mustache, have just been added to
the line-up. I must recommend this fes
tival if only to further familiarize you
with Dottie's, which, along with the
jjy Star Bar and the Clermont Lounge, has
■ distinguished itself as one of the best
"smaller" rooms in the cesspool of At-
| lanta with a bent towards more cou
rageous and adventurous booking.
Support these clubs!! For further info, call
404-523-3444.
AND FINALLY: If you have any news or
info for Yer Goody, call me Wednesdays at
549-9523, or write P.O. Box 1027, Athens,
GA 30603.
That's Yer Goody for the week of 11 -4-96.
Deonna Mann of
Medaglia D’Oro
cuts the cake.

YOU MUST GO: Call this the sort of
double bill that makes Athens a legendary
place; call it serendipity; call it sheer luck; call
it what you will — Monday, Dec. 9, will mark
the date for (1) Tony Tidwell & The Scalded
Dogs and (2) Rail, NC, to take to the stage at
the High Hat to simply whup up on your ears
and your preconceptions about bands that
use country and folk as reference points with
out turning into cliches. Tidwell has recently
released his self-titled debut on Ghostmeat
Records (helmed, by the way, by Flagpole's
own Russ Hallauer), an amazing, brash tough-
as-nails collection of songs that remind me
of the Jam and Jimmie Rodgers roaring
through Tom Waits' Raindogs. Rail, NC? Well,
what can you really say? Nick Bielli once called
'em "an Appalachian Yes" (which, granted,
is one frightening prospect), but all I can say
is that the Rail, NC, "experience" is bigger
should be interesting to see who's left stand
ing at the end of the evening (which certainly
shouldn't be me, but that's another story
entirely...). Can I have another?
YET ANOTHER 'ZINE: For the 'zine en
thusiasts out there (and there are a few of
you), I must recommend Tail Spins, an im
pressive, glossy cover/newsprint text out of
Evanston, III. Issue #27 (now gracing the
coffee table of my humble abode) contains
a semi-comprehensive piece on Bigfoot
sightings in the Midwest, a nice, long Gas
Huffer interview, a shooting range expose,
the sort of record review section that runs
the gamut from Patti Smith to Eyehategod
& from Steve Earle to Buttsteak, a bullshit-
proof live review section (with everything
from Kiss to Boyracer), and tons of other
features that alternately embrace and
spurn the whole punk/indie/D.I.Y. ethic.
Athens folks should note that our very own
local 'zine Chunklet is given a fine thumbs-
up from the Tail Spins staff. If you're inter
ested in submitting your own writing, re
corded product or otherwise, contact Tail
Spins at (1) P.O. Box I860, Evanston, IL
60204, (2) 312-935-0666 or (3)
tailspin@interaccess.com.
ROADTRIP, PART 3 OR 4 (I think):
Dottie's in Atlanta (recently bequeathed the
Patterson Hood stamp of approval) will
host the Tora Tora Tora Festival Dec. 6, 7
and 8, giving all you Athenians the chance
