RELEASE PARTY FOR THE
FLAGPOLE CHRISTMAS ALBUM:
’TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE '^1
CHRISTMAS, SO TO SPEAK
Surely you’ve already purchased your copy (or mul-
tiple copies) of The Flagpole Christmas Album, a sterling
collection of seasonal songs that commemorate that spe
cial feeling of giving that seems to rear its head this time
of year. If, in fact, you’ve plunked down your paltry $10.99
for your very own copy to give and enjoy, you can rest
assured that your money will be going to two worthwhile
causes: Community Connection and Project Safe. To fur
ther celebrate this year’s release, we have organized a re
lease party at the High Hat. This show will (1) give us a
chance to further promote the release by featuring some
artists from the album, (2) additionally give us a chance
to raise more money for these charities while gathering
food for needy families and (3) give you something to
do with yourself on a cold winter’s night. So here’s the
skinny: we’ll be celebrating the release of the album
Monday, Dec. 16, at the High Hat. Performing are
Drip, the Drive-by Truckers, Trinket, Anne Rich-
ir.ond-Boston and Matthew Sanborn & Angie Grass.
Festivities begin at 9 p.m., and we’ll have some free
food of some sort for noshing as you prepare for the
musical part of the evening. There are several ways you
can get in: the normal cover charge will be $3, or $2
with a can of food. We’re also offering a special deal
wherein you can pay $10 and receive your very own
copy of the CD, plus entry into the show. Terrific deal,
huh? Just remember a few key passages from the above
verbiage, and you’re set. In addition, I think there’ll
be something involving me, a bottle of tequila and
“The Night Before Christmas.” Maybe. See you there,
Athens.

OF GIVING
Sandra Townsell, a local nurse, point person for Athens-Clarke County
S.m.N.E. and requisite benefit organizer, is still plugging away at raising
funds for a more than worthwhile cause. S.A.N.E. is an acronym for Sexual
Assault Nurse Examiner, a program that provides the means to a safer
and more humane examination for survivors of sexual assault.
“Well, we still have to have benefits," she said, “because we really
don't have any designated funding — we’re not a United Way agency. We need money for training new nurses, ongoing training: we
provide clothing and medicines for the survivors of sexual assault,
new equipment, the camera, etc."
In addition to this las! forma! S.A.N.E. benefit for 1996, which will
feature performances by Mike Mantione (Five-Eight), Paul Lombard
and William Tonks (the Hot Burraos). T ownsell say® that S.A.N.E. will
be branching out onto the Internet.
“We want to set up a system where, in the future, people will be
able to talk, through the Internet, with specialists should there be ad
ditional questions we can't answer. Actually, there's a pediatric spe
cialist we’re going to get a system hook-up with immediately/
The entire ACC/S.A.N.E. project became most visible initially last
year, with the release of Sleep In Heavenly Peace, a benefit CD fea
turing the likes of Rosa Thurmond, Vigilantes Of Love, David Ferguson
(the Go-Figures), and the Priesty Boys (Neil & Pat Priest) among oth
ers, that is still available this year. Townsell laughs and calls compil
ing Sleep., a “life-draining experience," but is quick to note that the
album is also available through the Internet (and at stores locally) by
dialing up http://www.rn usic.athens.ga.us/sane.
