lively new local band featuring some
ex- Farmer John members. They're
opening for Rosewater Elizabeth.
Kelly Hogan (High Hat) Ah, what
raves are left for Kelly Hogan? She
is my single favorite songstress from
that big c*ty to the Southwest and she
showed all the Sweet Relie' II bands
the real way a Vic Chesnutt song
should be done. I dare you to listen
to her version ot “Soft Picasso' and
not oe moved by it. She is probably
relocating to Chicago in the middle
of next year, so we need to start treat
ing her like she deserves before it's
too late and we’ve let her slip away
unnoticed. She's too good for that to
happen. See the interview on Page
15.
Neal Pattman (Georgia Bar) Blues.
Mr. Pattman will be backed up by
some of the Vibratones (who he
played with at the Blues Feast a
couple weeks back). It’s a 'Blues
Christmas Party' tyoe-thing. The fun
starts at 10 p.m.
The Possibilities (Atomic Music
Hall) The Possibilities want you to
know that they finally got a Friday
night at the Atomic, and that if they
are to play future Friday nights here,
you should come see them tonight
and buy lots of beverages from the
kind folks behind the bar. That is all.
Oh, they also happen to be amazing
songwriters who regularly put the
kick-ass back in rock'n'roll. SciFu
opens. You WILL attend.
Ben Reynolds (High Hat) Reynolds
is a former Chickasaw Muddpuppie
doing his own solo acoustic folk
thing. His main impetus for playing
this show is to get his sister and
brother-in-law (who live in Italy and
are professional performers them
selves) together with Hot Burrito Wil
liam Tonks; he just wants to see what
happens. On a related note, a friend
of mine has been on a Muddpuppie
kick lately and couldn't find their al
bums anywhere in Georgia. She
moved to Cincinnati, and — just for
kicks - kwked in the *C' section of
her local record store to see if a
Muddpuppie album had slipped
through the cracks. It had! She found
the album, and now all is well. To
night Reynolds is playing with Kelly
Hogan and Slim Chance & the Con
victs.
Rosawatwr Elizabeth (40 Watt)
Swirling, ethereal mood music along
the lines of the Cocteau Twins, Swoon
10 and the like. See Keith Hurwitz's
article on Page 16.
SciFu (Atomic Music Hall) They
combine the harshest parts of metal
and hardcore with some dreamier,
spacy elements with absolutely origi
nal results. Bassist/vocalist Chris
Herron says their new stuff, while
perhaps even more hard to pigeon
hole than their older material, "gets
all nasty and good.' It's still hardcore
thrash, sorta, and 'impact' is the
word of the day for these guys. Open
ing for Los Possibilities.
The Simpletons (Lowery's) Rock
covers and originals.
Slim Chance & the Convicts
(High Hat) Playing with Kelly Hogan
and Ben Reynolds.

Gene Pool (Atomic Music Hall)
Hardcore alternative rock from Ma
con. These guys stress the fact that
if they see the crowd not 'getting into
it,' they’re more than happy to
change styles (sometimes drasti
cally) until the band and the crowd
are both in sync. They play about
85% originals, plus some covers.
They've been together almost five
years, and are beginning work on
their second CD.
Kudzu Jonos (DT's Down Under)
Mr. Jonto, I presume...?
Hudcat (High Hat) Atlanta blues
band Mudcat has released a new CD
called Worldwide Mud. It's yer basic
rewed-up blues album, but it some
times strays into pop territory (the
Hootie-ish 'Blue Style'), upbeat
lounge (the swell 'Savannah Strut’),
and has a good deal of superior
slide-guitar work. It’s done well and,
as always with this band, there's a
whole lotta shakin' goin' on.
Rack of Spam (Georgia Theatre)
Rhythm & blues. This is a reunion
show, featuring Clarence Young (lead
vocals), Randall Bramblett & John
James & Wayne Postelle (horns), Tim
White (keyboards), Davis Causey &
Chris Canalos (guitars), Greg Veale
(bass), Cal Hale (drums) and Dean
Quinter (percussion). They play
Memphis-type R&B (no doo-wop
beach music), like Otis Redding,
James Brown and a lot more.
The Simpletons (Lowery's) Rock cov
ers and originals.
Subvoodoo (Atomic Music Hall)
Pretty much the same deal as Gene
Pool, only they’ve been together for
about eight months. It's hardcore al
ternative.
