Dimestore / Laurie Geltman
High Hat Club
Boston singer/songwriter/guitarist Laurie Geltman makes her first appearar.ee in Athens
this evening opening for local band Dimestore. Geltman and her band are currently touring in
support of their new album No Power Steering, an
accessible collection of mid-tempo folk-rock, personal
acoustic ballads and danceable pop gems, with a
voice more along the subtle lines of Danielle Howie,
the Indigo Girls and Mary Lou Lord than, say. many of
the screeching divas who litter MTYs "Buzz Bin."
CMJ recently called Geltmcn “one of Boston’s best
kept secrets" and claimed that with the new album
“the perilous jump from the fringes of obscurity to
the national limelight will be one of the easiest
jumps Geltman will ever have to make — she's that
good."
Geltman performed and recorded in Boston
through the ‘90s and currently fronts an all-star band
featuring drummer Woody Giessmann (Del Fuegos),
bassist Brian Karp (Letters To Cleo), and violinist
Daniel Keller (John Cale, Rick Danko).
Geltman was recently added to the Boston dates
of this summer's "Lilith Fair" tour and will be featured
in a film about female musicians titled Pay Off at this
year's International Festival of Women’s Cinema. (BL)
