Slobberbone / Lou Ford
High Hat Club
The hard-rockin' Denton. Texas, band Slobberbone return to the High Hat this evening in sup
port of their second album Barrel Chested (Doolittle Records). Slobberbone, featuring
singer/songwriter Brent Best,
played here just a few months
ago and tore the place up with
their blues-based Texas rock,
which somehow gets tagged as
"Americana."
The New York Times recently
wrote. "This Texas band set out
to split the difference between
lynyrd Skynyrd and Nirvana...
belligerent, sullen, lachrymose."
Lou Ford, a four piece rock
band out of Charlotte, N.C., open
the show with their twangy. mid-
tempo rock, which at times
resembles Lou Reed more than, say. Buck Owens. Their recent album Sod But Familiar (Sony Ass
Records) include 13 tracks of tear-in-your-beer sorrows. (BL)

The Del Rays / Eastern Standard Time / FLK
40 Watt Club
Athens' latest ska phenomenon. The Del
Rays, headline a big show thu week at the 40
Watt. According to dapper Del Ray vocalist Jeff
Palmiotti, the band recently strengthened their
line-up with 4 new trombone player, David
Nelson, and an additional tenor saxophone
player. Brad Thomas. The Del Rays recent self-
titled, self-released EP features five tunes
which highlights the strong horn section.
While playing mostly very tot straight up
traditional ska, the Del Rays mix it up with a
little swing, as heard on tracks tike "Devils*
and "Straight." Look for the hidden instrumen
tal track titled 'Gremlins.' which sounds like Man Or Astioman? tackling Madness.
Cyemng this evening's concert am Eastern Standard Time, a jury, traditional ska outfit out of
Washington, O.C, and R.K. • more hardcore/punk band tom that drowsy town of Charleston, S.C.
Both bands have gigged with The Del Rays on the road this year. (Bl)
