THIS IN FROM ONTV: Last week, we reported that the new,
improved SoundCheck TV show would feature Widespread
Panic this week. Oue to a minor technical difficulty, the air
ing of footage of the band in all their glory at the recent
Athens Music Day will be delayed for a while. Youll have to
settle for the Drive-By Truckers instead, so don't let your
babies near the set this week. Last week's show, featuring Vic
Chesnutt, looks pretty good: it captures Athens' favorite bard
in a pretty goofy mood, and new host/interviewer Kitty
Snyder never strays into Baba Wawa-land. More local couch
spud news: check out Damn!, a skit comedy show put togeth
er by a passel of UGA students. It airs on ONTV May 20 at
10:30 p.m.
REVOLVING NO MORE: The Revolvers have broken up, kids.
Look for a possible reconstitution of Hazel Virtue, ever the
Revolvers' mother band, in the fall.
THE SHOW DID GO ON: The Indigo Girts did play Irmo High
School in South Carolina despite earlier protest and cancella
tion by the principal. South Carolina's Danielle Howie and
the Tantrums opened and were joined on stage by R.E.M.'s
Mike Mills. The girls thanked the Township and the radio and
print media for their support.
Jack Logan
HOW LOGAN YOU GO: Athens DIY superhero Jack Logan will
be releasing a CD in collaboration with his old friend, Illinois
musician Bob Kimbell, on June 30 entitled Little Pnvate
Angel. Kimbell, who's reportedly a sucker for all things
Love/Byrds/Beatles/Big Star, did most of the music, while
Jack supplied lyrics. It'll come out via Parasol Distribution,
the kind folks who send Kindercore product around the
globe. The Possibilities play a little on Jack's record, as does
local country-guitar master William Tonks. Jack says there'll
b* a tour, too: Kimbell is currently living out of his car some
where in California, but Logan reports that they'll barnstorm
the states as long as the credit card holds out. Expect Athens
dates, and Lord knows what else from brother Logan.
ALBUM DRIP: The new album from Drip, entitled Inside Job,
is out! Drip will be touring this June with This Bike Is A Pipe
Bomb and later in August with other bands. You can get the
album from Ghostmeat Records for S10. Check local stores.
HE TALKS: Michael Stipe is doing the talk show circuit. Two
week ago, Charlie Rose did an interview with Stipe on his
PBS show. Michael also appeared briefly on Regis and Kathy
Lee (yes, that is correct). Last week he was scheduled to be
interviewed by Terry Gross on NPR's “Fresh Air" on Monday.
Stipe, among other things, has a photography book out enti
tled Two Tines Intro: On The Road With Patti Smith. Another
project, involving Tom Gilroy, Anna Grace, Douglas A.
Martin, Jim McKay, Grant Lee Phillips, Rick Roth and Stipe
is The Hoiku Year, out on Soft Skull Press. The authors agreed
to write a haiku a day for an entire year. Call (800) 247-6553
to order. The photography book should be available in book
stores: it's published by Little, Brown.
USED RECORD SALE & SWAP MEET COMING: The date hasn't
been set yet but there will be a record sale and swap outside
in front of Candy. Everyone is invited to bring their used
vinyl and CDs for a group swap.
That's it for this week. As usual, e-mail me at
Deb3691938@AOL.COM. Bye now!
