Dr. Kpants
Georgia Bar
Athens band Dr. Kpants (the name, apparently pronounced "Dr. Pants," is from an old Chris
Elliott skit) consists of drummer Rob Robinson, bassist Paul Walker, guitarist Russell Cook and
guitarist/vocalist Joseph Evans. The
band formed over a year ago and have
been playing several clubs in town
since. According to Evans, the band
has spent more time focusing on writ
ing and recording and “making it real"
rather than recording in studios.
“We have such limited time to work
together. We'd rather get our energy
down and deil with one another on
stage rather than record things on
tape.”
Flagpole recently described Dr.
Kpants vaguely as "gravel rock"
because the band sounds like a gritty mix of several styles. Evans agrees: "We do a little bit of
everything — jazz, country, bluegrass, prog rock, rap — when you mesh all that together, it's
rock and roll."
Dr. Kpants certainly mix it live, with Cook and Evans sharing lengthy guitar solo duties. Watch
out for a possible Jerry Reed cover and some song about a riot girl. (BL)

The Rock*A*Teens
Tasty World
Sure, the new Rock*A*Teens album, Baby, A Little Rain Must Fall (Merge), sounds like it was
recorded in a bucket But what a bucket. The Teens' formula calls for massive doses of heart-
wrenching Phil Spectorisms. mixed
with that m-chine-age alienation
vibe that made for so much great,
obscure late-'70s schizoid rock
music. It's a bit like stirring up
ammonia and bleach, and a song
like "I Could've Just Died" may
indeed have you swooning and
contemplative, a poisoned actor in
the final act of some Elizabethan
tragedy where the entire cast is
sporting go-go boots and Richard
Hell haircuts. Go to this one. (RF)
