Lodestar
Tasty World
These guys are touring behind an album they began recording in '96, finished in late '97,
and released in January of this year. By this point, it contains many songs they won't even
play live anymore.
Welcome to the
power-pop world of
Charlotte's Lodestar.
That album,
Jehovacaine, mixes
post-post-Big Star
(i.e. post-R.E.M)
alterna-pop with
post-Huskers power-
punch for a promis
ing, if unsurprising
and "post-" laden
batch of catchy pop
numbers.
Songwriter/guitarist
Jeff Williams recently told Flagpole that his motley lot are a "fairly sarcastic and cynical
bunch" and explained their motivations for playing music: "We want to be able to go out and
see the world, play, drink, have a good time, and finally get a nice tour bus!" Find Jeff after
the show and ask him to tell you about the time he and Big Star drummer Jody Stephens
rapped about pornography and the dehydration of the human body during airplane flights. (JB)
