they’ve got the dog playing lootball.
How timely. (Mall Inside)
Armageddon (PG-13) Mean old
Bruce Willis, boring old Ben Affleck and
pouty Liv Tyler star in this garish, loud,

Blade (R) Blade (Weslev Snipes), a
half human/halt vampire super-hero,
wages bloody urban battle with young
and old vampires who threaten to take
over the world Stephen Dorff leads the
bad guys through scenes that resemble
sunglasses commercials as much as
horror flicks High-tech, extremely
bloody, last-paced and surprisingly
entertaining Of you can stomach the

Inside)
Dead Man On Campus (R) MTV's
quirky college comedy. What hap
pened? After That Thing You Do. why
did actor Tom Everett Scott agree to
such rubbish 9 This stinks almost as
bad as his recent American Werewolf In
Pans What's "Zack" (TV's ‘Saved By
The Bell"' doing in this? Not recom
mended. (Mall Outside;
Dance With Me (PG) A Cuban
dancer, Ratael (Chayenne) shows up in
Texas and breathes new life into the stu
dio owned by an aging dancer (Kris
Kristotferson). Ratael meets a younger,
beautiful ballroom dancer with frighten
ing make-up named Ruby (Vanessa
Williams). He prefers the rough, emo
tive Cuban-style while she tavors the
schooled traditional stuff. A pretty con
voluted film, but oddly hypnotic. Catch
a matinee with a great-aunt. (Beechwood)
Dangerous Unisons (R) 1988 John
Malkovich, Glenn Close. Michelle
Pfeiffer. Uma Thurman and Keanu
Reeves star in this strong screen version
ot the Lacios novel about the romantic
shenanigans between some manipula
tive members of 18th century French
nobility. Exquisite. Naughty. Directed by
Stephen Frears. (Tate)
Ever After (PG-13) Drew Barrymore
stars in this Renaissance fairy tale ot a
servant girl and her Prince Charming.
This is a delightful movie that keeps a
sale distance trom sickly-sweet territory.
Barrymore plays the Cinderella-esque
role with just the right dose oi spunk
and intelligence. Beautiful costumes and
scenery, and a fabulous performance by
Angelica Huston as the Evil Stepmothe..

A Great Day In Harlem (NR) A col
lection of foolage and interviews
inspired by a group photograph of sev
eral jazz musicians in Harlem taken by
Art Kane in 1958. Includes footage ot
such greats as Count Basie, Thetomous
Monk, Maxme Sullivan and others

Halloween: H20 (R) Jamie Lee Curtis
and "Michael Myers" pay tribute to the
Halloween series in this mildly scary
20th Anniversary sequel It has some o!
the right ingredients tor genuine horror,
like suspenseful music during tense
chase scenes, yet lacks the intensity ot
the original (Commerce Drive-In, Mall
Outside)
How Stella Got Her Groove Back
(R) What an unrealistic. Irustrating
romantic comedy. It's never quite clear
exactly how the busy 40-year-old Stella
(Angela Bassett) lost her “groove* in
first place. She tries to “get it back“ in
'amaica alongside her good pal Delilah
(Whoopie Goldberg), falling in love with
a handsome 20-year-old named
W ; nston (Taye Diggs). That’s simple
enough, but what follows in this story is
a series of unrealistic, nearly-bizarre
interactions between Stella and her
friends, her love;, her son and her ex-
husband. I don't get the joke. Not rec
ommended. (Beechwood)
Knock Off (R) Action Belgian Jean-
Claude Van Damme stars as a jeans
salesman working in Hong Kong What
do you know... he uncovers a plot by
Russian mafia to sell microbombs to a
worldwide terrorist market. Who cast
this? With Rob Schneider (“Saturday
Night Live"), Lela Rochon and Paul
Sorvino. Opens Friday. (Mall Outside)
by Vladmir Nabokov about a middle-
aged professor and a young girl named
Lolita. Starring James Mason, Shelly
Winters. Peter Sellers (in several roles)
and Sue Lyon. Nabokov himself wrote
the screenplay to this one. We still
wonder if the new Lolila starring
Jeremy Irons will ever be released.
(Tate)
Madeline (PG) The young Hatty
Jones stars as the mischievous
Madeline, the little French girl in the
classic Ludwig Belemans children’s
books. With Fargo's Frances
McDormand and bunch ot polite
youngsters. Recommended (Alps)
The Parent Trap (PG) Disney contin
ues to perpetuate the belie! in a “happi
ly ever alter" in this ‘90s-style remake
ot its own 1961 dystunctional family
The Last Days Of Disco (R) Director
Whit Stillman’s (Metropolitan.
Barcelona) dark take on the New York
yuppie scene in Manhattan at the tail-
end ut the disco era. It's a ary film with a
pack o< unlikeable characters, but it
beats the hell out of 54. Starring Chlofe
Sevigny, Tara Subkoff, Kate Beckmsaie,
Chris Eigeman and others. (Tate)
The Last Temptation Of Christ (R)
Director Martin Scorsese's controversial
1988 film portraying Christ in his las!
year more as an ordinary man with
human desires and frustrations than a
messiah. Starring Willem Dafoe, Harvey
Keitel. Barbara Hershey, Harry Dean
Stanton and David Bowie. Adapted trom
a novel by Nikos Kazantzakis. With
stirring soundtrack Irom Peter Gabiiot.
(Tate)
Lolita (NR) Director Stanley Kubrick’s
1962 screen version of the saucy story
classic. In a dual role. Lindsay Lohan
plays a set of twins separated by
Divorce when Ihey are infants. Dennis
Quaid and Natasha Richardson play
their parents. (ML) (Beechwood)
Saving Private Ryan (R) Spielberg's
disturbing film depicting a very bloody
D-Day at Normandy and a small pla
toon's search for a missing soldier
behina enemy lines. It's a shockingly
realistic film with extremely gory battle
scenes, tense, impersonal interaction
between young and old soldiers who
deal with the horrors ot war in various
ways, and a balance of small human
stories that blend well into one clear
message: war is a horrible, horrible
thing. Starring Tom Hanks, Tom
Sizemore, Matt Damon, Edward Bums,
and many others. It’s a remarkable film
with a slightly syrupy soundtrack.
Highly recommended. (Beechwood)
(t to r) Lela Rochon, Halle Berry, larenz Tate and Vivica A. Fox star in
