GOT BEER IN THE FRIDGE: Tarbaby's one-man-bandleader and
Fable Factory bassist Chris Bishop is proud to announce the
expansion of his home studio. Radium Recording. Until recent
ly, Bishop had been dragging everyone from 5-8 to Tres Kids
into a cramped, one-room studio to record on some crappy eight-
track cassette board ("Hey, Mike, the guys at Velvel love the new
material; here's $15 to go record the next album"). His new digs
are larger, and better suited for the higher quality of record
ing that Bishop can achieve with his newly acquired 16-
track, one-inch reel-to-reel deck. The best pa*t for all you
cheap bastard musicians is Bishop's desire to continue his
low-cost philosophy by offering the cheapest prices he possi
bly can. Call Chris at 548-5895, or e-mail tarbaby@arches.

TAKE YER GREEN DAY AND SHOVE IT UP YER...: Come this
Monday, September 7, you will be in Atlanta. You will be at
the Point. You will be wondering why everyone is wearing
Union Jack and "Meat K-IL" T-shirts. That's because you will
be witnessing the reunion of legendary British politico-punk
rockers the Subhumans. The band, who broke up 12 years
ago, have reformed for a UK/US tour as a way to thank all
their fans, many of whom were probably just learning to walk
when the Subhumans split. Bring some extra cash while
you're at it, 'cause the Subhumans are making their new
album. Unfinished Business, available only at these reunion
shows. Not even the crafty Heckler can get his hands on a
copy. No word if the set will include songs like the vegan
anthem "Flesh and Blood" from subsequent Subhumans off
shoot band Citizen Fish. In true punk tradition, the show is
all ages and tickets are an affordable $8. Contact the Point at
(404) 659-3522 for more information. If you possess even
one Rancid CD, you owe it to your karma to be at this show.
SOON TO JOIN THE LIKES OF THE ATLANTA RHYTHM SECTION:
The 1998 nominees for the Georgia Music Hall of Fame were
announced last week. Nominated artists include the Allman
Brothers, R&B singer Peabo Bryson, Chuck Leavell (who
played in Sea Level with my good buddy Randall
Bramblett), and some crappy local band called YZT — or, no,
wait.. R.E.M., yeah, R.E.M. I think they're a cover band or
something. Play Klassics a lot. Actually, this is the second time
R.E.M. have been nominated for the Hall of Fame. (As you proba-

deal with the pressures of a global tour.) There are only so many
world-famous bands in Georgia — I figure they'll make it in one
of these years. What's so important about all this? I dunno, tne

Fame nominees did not include former locals Hall of Fame. The
highlight of the actual Hall is apparently 'Tune Town," a "recre

great — AthFest 24 hours a day. Where can I get my ticket?
(Just kidding. In fact, AthFest was recently named the "Festival
or Event of the Year" by the Georgia Convention and Visitors'
Bureau.) The Hall of Fame's induction ceremony takes place

Then it's back to slinging burritos at Taco Stand for you, bub.

THE LAST THING YOU WILL READ ABOUT THIS CD UNTIL
NOVEMBER 10: Finally, friends, we have an actual street date
for Robert Lurie's long, long, long awaited David Bowie
tribute album. Jesus, Lord. I think he started woiking on this
thing when Bowie was still called Davey Jones and played
R&B songs. Lurie has pulled it together at last. He even
found time to give it a title: Loving the Alien. His first
choice was actually Surfing with the Alien, until he found
out that title had been swiped by Joe Satriani back in the
'80s. Oh well. The CD will be out on November 10. Pre-order
ing begins in mid-October. Keep your eyes peeled for a
release party in November as well.
Send me some news folks. I love your band and I want to know
more. Send us your tapes, too. How can we perpetuate this pre
cious scene of ours without your help? E-mail icecoldpbr@hot-
mail.com or call 549-9523.
