Big Sandy & His Fly Rite Boys / Poor Little Fools
Wednesday, September 9
40 Watt Club
Some bands in and around the general swing/rockabilly/retro-rock scene struggle to find
their identity within the increasingly narrow definitions of those genres. It's difficult to differ
entiate between your Big Bad Cherry Poppin' Voodoo Daddies and your Amazing Royal Crown
Revues. It's refreshing, however, to witness genuine enthusiasm and creativity.
Big Sandy & His Ry Rite Boys do not fall neatly into any sort of category, other than
maybe "hot shit live early-style rock'n'rolL" Known for their high-energy live performances,
this band, led by the witty lead singer Robert "Big Sandy" Williams, formed in 1987, specializ
ing in Western swing, rockabil'y and hillbilly boogie. Over the years, they rearranged their
line-up and experimented with more and more with Chicago and New Orleans blues, R&B, doo
wop and Latin
sounds.
Look for the
band's '97 album
Feelin' Kinda Lucky.
