The Warblers

As part of their new “Twilight Entertainment" series, the
Athens Brewing Company brings one of Athens’ most pop
ular folk acts to the stage. The Warblers’ repertoire includes
original hluegrass and folk tunes as well as some a cappella
gospel pieces. With Katie Ford on guitar. Greg Earnest on
banjo and guitar. Steve Heath on bass and guitar, and Maggie
Hunter on vocals. The Warblers celebrate a style of music
that forms the basis for much of today’s more popular col
lege acts Such influences are easily heard in the acoustical
meiodies anti harmonious vocals of groups such as Soul
Miner’s Daughter and Jump, Little Children, local bands that
are all the rage among the kids these days. The Twilight
Entertainment series offers a casual, family-friendly atmos
phere in which members of the audience who wish to dine
while they're entertained will have a variety of special menu

Now in it’s sixth year,
"A Taste of Athens" has
become one of the
largest annual fund
raising events in Athens.
After outgrowing the
ballrooms of the
Georgian two years ago,
“A Taste of Athens" drew
over 700 people to the
Classic Center last year
and this year's crowd is expected to reach over 1000. While
the Fountains play their unique brand of harmonious roots
rock, over 55 local retaurants, grocery stores, caterers, and
food and beverage distributors will have displays featuring
their finest menu items, and attendees can wander from
table to table stuffing themselves like a bunch of
Thanksgiving turkeys— all for a good cause.
“A Taste of Athens" is Community Connection's major
annual fundraiser and the event includes a silent auction fea
turing a pair of signed Evander Holyfield boxing gloves,
goods from R E M. and Widespread Panic, a guitar signed by
John Fogerty. assorted local art, and plenty of other valuable
goods from generous supporters all over town In case you
didn’t know. Community Connection has been serving
Northeast Georgia for over 12 years now as a primary infor
mation and referral service hub for an almost endless list of
social services and agencies. Current projects include partic
ipation in VISTA (the domestic peace corps), coordination of
Family Connection, child care provider training, and opening

Mental Health Benefit
Art Auction

After all the Mental Health Benefit events of this past
week, it's hard to imagine that there’s even more. The ben
efit's annual art auction features work from many of Athens'
finest local ailists and is the perfect chance for everyone
else to add to their collections while supporting a good
cause The work is on display upstairs at the Globe each
evening from 6-10 p.m. and artists can continue to donate

Lanier Trio

The Lanier Trio's double disc release of the complete
piano trios of Antonin Dvorak was one oi only two classical
recordings to make it onto Time magazine's “Best of 1993"
list. Named in honor of Georgia native poet and musician.
Sydney Lanier, the Trio was formed in 1979 and includes
William Preucil on violin, Dorothy Lewis on cello, and Cary
Lewis on piano. They perform regularly throughout the
United States and Europe This evening's concert, part of the
Franklin College Chamber Music Series, includes selections
