If you haven't seen local singer-
guitarist Bill Mallonee and his roots
pop band Vigilantes of Love in a
great long while, it's because
they've been super-busy touring
America, hanging out in Giant's
Causeway, Ireland (see picture) and Vigilantes of Love
recording a new album in Nashville.
After releasing half a dozen albums on various record labels throughout the '90s, the band
decided to release their most recent album, a 15-song collection recorded at Full Moon Studio
last spring titled To The Roof Of The Sky, entirely on their own. Subsequent tounng and self-pro
motion led to subsequent album sales (they've sold over 7,000 already) and a deal with
Pioneer/Atlantic Records.
The new album Audible Sigh was produced by country-alt guru guitarist Buddy Miller (Steve

Earle, Emmylou Hams). Mallonee says the album is "less twangv than one would expect, but full
of the same roots-rock feel." Listen for guest drummer Brady Blade (also from Steve Earle's
band), Julie Miller and Emmylou Harris herself. Audible Sigh will be out April 20.
The current VOL line-up includes Mallonee on guitar, Jake Bradley on bass, Kenny Hutson on
guitar, mandolin, and dobro and heavy-hitting new drummer Kevin Heuer. Local folk rock band

New York City's strange and unique all
vocal trio Double Dong wins the award for
Weirdest Musical Act Not To Be Missed this
week. Vocalists MC Heaven, Ghost Krabb and
Pter-T-Pac combine elements of rap, R&8 and
early new-wave in their mostly a capella music
and deliver it with a punkish attitude and sar
castic, sexually-explicit lyrics. Their recent
self-titled album sounds like The Bobs fronted
by Dale Bozzio attempting Fat Boys tunes.
They're heavy on the human beatbox. flagpole
scribe Melissa Link overheard some of the
tracks and described it as, "way weirder than
Ween." Double Dong
Double Dong play regularly in and around
New York and recently toured with They Might Be Giants. Their outrageous live show may induce
migraine headaches, unusual sexual notions, rage and laughter. Beware.
Local rockers Michael and Cafeteria headline the show. (BL)
