PERFORMANCE
ATHENS BRASS The Athens Brass performs a special
Independence Day concert featuring marching band
music, patriotic tunes and old favorites. Athens*
Clarke County Library Auditorium on Sunday, July 2 at

ATHENS CREATIVE THEATRE Tickets are row on sale
for the AO’s Summer Musical Series. Performances
include “The Music of Lerner & Lowe and Rodgers &
Hammerstein* on Friday, July 7 and Saturday, July 8,
“The Music of Stephen Sondheim and Jerry Herman"
on July 21-22 and “Those Crazy, Wacky Songs for the
Kid in All of Us" on Aug. 4-8. All shows at the Morton
Theatre downtown include an old-fashioned ice cream

EVENTS
ATHENS CELEBRATES THE 4TH Athens-Oarke County's
Leisure Services department presents the annual “Star
Spangled Classic." Each year thousands of Athenians
gather at the park to enjoy live music in the evening,
followed by a fireworks extravaganza. Come early and
enjoy the pool from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. This year, per
formers include the Tropical Breeze Band at 7:30 p.m.
and the Classic City Sand at 8:30 p.m. Bring a
blanket and a picnic basket or purchase hotdogs,
popcorn, drinks, cotton candy and the tike from the
Elks Club. All proceeds benefit Project Reach, a day
camp prgram for physically and mentally challenged
youth. The fireworks display begins at 9:30 p.m.
Bring a radio, too. and you can tune in to the syn
chronized music broadcast on WNGC 95.5 FM. Bishop

CITY OF COLBERT The City of Colbert presents its
32nd Annual Independence Day celebration with a
parade, live music, arts and crafts, food and mere.
Festivities commence with a parade through down
town Colbert at 10 a.m., followed ay a barbecue
lunch hosted by the fire department Congressman
John Linder will give the keynote address after lunch,
then the live entertainment commences. Headliners
this year are Ben Johnson and the Pioneers, a blue-
grass, jazz and Dixieland band that recently com
pleted a 10'day tour of Japan. Other performers
include the Blue Ridge Ramblers, Danny Anthony,
Dennis Troy, The Wright Family Gospel Singers, The
Johnsons and emcee Roscoe Pucanfton. Downtown
Colbert on Tuesday July 4, all day. FREE! Directions

HARTWELL PRC-4TH FUN The city of Hartwell pre
sents its third annual “Dancin’ on Depot" concert
Bring the whole family for fun, food and family
entertainment This year features a concert on Friday
evening by the oldies band, the Swingin' Medallions.
