plan to reuse the water from Legion Pool at the
end of the summer for irrigation is another
good example of creative thinking.
Unfortunately, there are a few who resist all
attempts at restricting outdoor water use. The
employees of the Water Business Office, espe
cially the meter readers and collectors, are car
rying the load of educating the public and
enforcing the restrictions. We can all thank
them for showing every citizen and visitor how
to share the burden that this drought has
brought us. We can make their task easier by
willingly complying with the water restrictions
now in effect.

TALK IS CHEAP
The Athens Daily News August 17. 2000, in
an article by Joan Stroer on page 1A "New UGA
Students Urged to Extend Their Boundaries,"
quoted Athens-Clarke Mayor Doc Eldridge.
Regarding their town surroundings, he said,
"we would like for you to treat it like your
home."
The Mayor carefully avoided mentioning to
the students that if they seek to live with
others in the subdivision houses of other
Athenians, they may face all the legal police
power of the government the Mayor represents
and be threatened with and perhaps have
imposed by the government courts, fines of up
to SI000 per day for seeking to live in the
neighborhoods with other Athenians, as former
students recently did in Five Points.
The good Mayor also failed to mention that
this so called "family law" is mainly enforced
by citizen complaints. This is a polite and polit
ically correct way of saying, "spying by your
neighbors". If a group of students choose to live
together in a house isolated and hidden behind
a high wall or trees, the law is likely not to be
enforced, in patent vijlation of the "equal pro
tection clause" of the Georgia Constitution, not
to mention the 14th Amendment to the United
States Constitution.
Thus the government itself becomes a law
breaker. Recalling the words of Francis Bacon:
When a judge departs from the letter of the law
he becomes a lawbreaker.
Students, let this be your first lesson at
UGA: talk is cheap and actions speak louder
than words.

LIGHTEN UP. MAN
I have just read Chris McKay's opinions on
the Phallic Phungus demo CD "Exposed Skin"
and I have to write and say... While the musi
cians do appreciate getting some "Exposure" in
the press, I think you just didn't get it Chris! I
know after reading your other reviews that you
like denim and leather, and that is fine, but we
were not in that mindset while creating this...
sorry! Also, there has been no attempt to
"release" this album to the public. When this
disc was handed to Ballard Lesemann, he was
told that this was just a "glorified demo with a
cover." He responded by saying, "Well just call
it a limited edition special release.'" So what is
up with this slamming of our music? What you
have is some fun, crazy improvisation that cap
tures some very happy accidents. Moments of
ZEN for you religion lovers. Musicians and
artists should not have to apologize for not fit
ting into your small "box" of what you "like"
and should not be concerned with your per
sonal dislikes. What this unfinished "work in
progress" DOES represent is something new, or
at the very least, a new way of BEING in the
creative process. And yes, at times, it even
makes fun of those things held tc be so high
and mighty by narrow minds like yours. What if
John Lennon DID rap, what would he rap
about? Thank you for your near awareness of
the tune "Slow Down," because it IS a parody!
There is no attempt to pay homage to the
reggae scene or to try and be what that scene
represents which is all qood stuff too! As for
"The beginning of the end is really just the
middle," well, the version that you have doesn't
even have the end on it... so maybe we will get
you a newer version with the complete madness
at the end. (Another 14 minutes of computer
altered craziness to complement the unmas
tered one-take improvisation of the first half.)
All in all, this is supposed to be fun and silly
music, so LIGHTEN UP and listen to the music
AS IT IS instead of how you wish it was! Enjoy
the good vibe that is shared while we created
this music. All music is good, because music is
culture! Less judgment and more awareness,
please! Your job as a critic is not to decide what
is GOOD and BAD! Maybe you should choose to
be a conductor or a composer instead of just a
listener. Then you and your colleagues can
create it the way you NEED it to be. Maybe in
the future you can simply tell people about the
albums and use some constructive criticism (if
you must). I am CERTAIN that what you call
GOOD and worthy of being in one's collection is
NOT the same as my ideas or anyone etse's for
that matter. If we had taken this album as seri
ously as you are trying to take it, we certainly
would not be having nearly as much fun with
it. I bet you are a really fun guy (geek) to hang
out with. Remember, music isn't boring, FEOPLE
are boring. WEEEEEEE!!

SIGN LETTERS
I have noticed a disturbing trend of people
indulging in negative tirades in the Flagpole
"letters" under the shield of anonymity. It
seems to me that if someone is going to take
the bold step of criticizing or name-calling
individuals in our local paper, they should be
brave enough to give their own name. The little
tantrum directed at "Dr. Thump" in last week's
paper is a case in point. Flagpole should insti
tute a policy requiring people to give their
name unless there is a truly compelling reason
not to. Perhaps we will have more balanced,
well-thought-out letters if people have to con
sider how it will reflect on their reputation, not
just the reputations of those whom the\ ire
writing about.

WALKING THE DAWGS
Come on now, what in the world is this sup
posed to accomplish? As a recent graduate of
UGA (1998), I can hardly afford to donate the
money required in order to have the "privilege"
of ordering season tickets. Now I am supposed
to donate at least SHOO just to have the "privi
lege" of fighting for a parking spot on campus.
Hell, near it would be good. Does UGA not
realize that half the tradition of Georgia foot
ball is the tailgating itself? I sure as hell am
not going to be happy sitting in a concrete
shell of a parking deck, knowing that I then
have to walk a mile to the stadium when it
comes game time. After ten beers, that just
isn't going to happen.
They claim, also, that shuttles will be avail
able to bus the fans back to their cars after the
game... for one hour only, nr: d you. Can they
fit 50,000 or so people on these buses in one
hour? That's GOT to be a safety issue. Even with
50 buses running nonstop, which I doubt will
be the esse, that's 1000 people per bus in an
hour. It is at least a 15-minute ride round-trip,
so chat's a max of four round-trips per bus per
hour. That's 250 people per bus per trip. YEAH
RIGHT!!!! What are they gonna do with the
HUGE crowd that needs to get on these buses
that will inevitably be spilling out into the
street? That's gotta be a safety concern too,
huh? Well, obviously not. If you ask me, this
whole mess is just another way for UGA to
make some more money. I for one am not going
to let this keep me from going to the games,
but I will not be a happy camper when I spend
two hours looking foi a parking spot and it
ends up being in Watkinsville
Peeved in Atlanta, DAWG for life.
