D.M.G.B. (One Love) This Athens-
based quintet plays songs by The Dave
Matthews Band. The group sold out the
Georgia Theatre last week. Frontman
Dave Koon recently wowed the experts
at 99X with his impersonation of the
yowling “rock singer.’
THE DICTATORTOTS (40 Watt)
Rowdiness and vulgarity immersed in
guitar distortion and drum beats
(moviegoers may have heard the demo
tape on loop* during intermission at
the GATK). This beer’n’steak-crazed
Athens band is always a challenging
"love 'em or hale 'em’ affair.’ This
grizzly-looking crew wins the award for
“Best Press Kit Presentation’ (a toilet
filled with beef jerky, testicular cancer
tongue-in-cheek approach and
stompin' beat and new-wave veneer.
OBIDtAH STRANGE (Caledonia)
Athens guitarist Drew Matter describes
this new “vaudevitlian’ band as "vary
melodic and literary.* The experts
agree, this is die Classic City* answer
to Giant Sand and The Monks.
SISTER HAZEL (Georgia Theatre) The

based in Gainesville, FL that flew to the

DURALUXE (Engine Room) Atnsns-
bassd “noise-pop" quartet. The 11-
song Dolorosa album is a sharp collec
tion steeoed in vocal melodies and
sonic guitar-wash. The band has a new
album in the can and plans to release a
split LP (Duraluxe vs. Lassies’type
thing) with the L A. band tne Lassie
Foundation on Parasoi Recoids. Word
