.. .And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead,
Explosions In The Sky, C'est Mortale
40 Watt Club
...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead >■ is a strange,
mop-topped rock band out of Austin with an ear for melody and a
penchant for on-stage chaos and guitar noise. The band—guitarist
Jason Reece, guitarist-drummer Kevin Allen, drummer-guitarist
Conrad Keely, and bassist N«iil Busch—started as a reaction against
the typical three-chord punk bands that were around in Austin in
the mid-'90s. The band's full throttle, in-your-face, bombastic rock
has its most recent musical roots in the likes of early Sonic Youth, Roky Erikson, Butthole Surfers
and Polvo.
...Trail Of Dead issued forth a self-titled release on Trance Syndicate a few years back and fol
lowed it with a remarkable collection titled Madonna on Merge Records in 1999. The band
recently jumped ship from Merge to ink a deal with Interscope Records. A forthcoming album is
already in the can and set for release in early 2002.
"Yep, we're on the Interscope roster now!" exclaims bassist Neil Busch. "We're still totally
friends with Merge and everyone. We did really well over in Europe, just going over there to tour
a few times. An then some people in the industry started talking about the band being 'hot' or
whatever, and all the other guys on their level started to say that, then a few more people
higher up start talking, and then suddenly it's a feeding frenzy. It's pretty funny, really."
