JASON VIEAUX "Wheel of Fortune" contestants
hvware, Jason Vieaux is setting the musical world on
fire with his talented escapades on the guitar. He is
the youngest first prize winner of the prestigious
Guitar Foundation of America International
Competition, and the folks at NPR can't get enough
of him. Program includes ditties from Manuel Ponce,
Hans-Werner Hanze, Bach and Issac Albeniz. UGA

TRIMITY COMMUNITY CHOIR The Oconee Cultural
Arts Foundation's monthly concert series brings the
Trinity Community Choir center stage, right where

SHAWN COLVIN Acoustic solo performance by the
multi-Grammy award winning singer/songwriter
Shawn Colvin. She is touring behind her latest 6-

THEATRE
THE PLAYBOY OF THE WESTERN WORLD UGA
University Theatre presents the popular Insh
romantic comedy by John Millington Synge.
Controversial in its day, the satirical tale of a
betrothed woman's love for a patricide-committing
outsider is an Irish classic. See review on facing

BIG, THE MUSICAL The beloved film starring Tom
Hanks (before he won all those Oscars) comes to life
on stage, thanks to community theatre pranksters
ACT (which stands for Athens Creative Theatre in
case they ask you on the SAT) Fate's fickle sense of
humor is unleashed on young Josh Baskin, as his
wish to be "Big" comes true with humorous results.

ATHENS FAIR Three cheers, the Athens Fair is coming
to town. Or is »t? This mysterious event, which one
could assume will contain all the familiar activities
associated with traveling fairy, is an enigmatic mys
tery eluding all forms of the print medium and their
efforts to confirm its existence. Does it really exist?
Who knows (we sure don't)? Look for the billboards.
That's all the information anyone seems to have.

ATHENS MONTESSORI SCHOOL FALL FEST The one
day out of the year it's okay to party at school.
Festival is a mighty word, yet the day's itinerary
deserves the credit. Musical performances by the
Montessori Singers, the Solstice Sisters, Mary Wooten
and the Woopets and Pam Blanchard and the Sunny-
Side Up Band. If that isn't enough, Mr. Magic dazzles
with his sleight of hand, whereas the Pocket Lady

RUN FOR THE RIVER Because a Run in the River,
though fun, is both too cold for the season and pro
vides the likely possibility of drowning. Instead, do
your part to help the Broad River by participating in
the 5K Race, held conveniently on land, with prizes
