This cover band applies a reggae aes
thetic to a wide variety of pop, rock and

and Jason Kom team up with Jim
Wilson and Chuck Bradbum—the
music* a little noisier, dangier and

name that runs in contrast to its noise,
local four-piece Pretty Ugly puts out

tinues to add n*w 'ayers to its sc
times-spooky, folk-infused sound.
Vocalist Will Robison Self and gui
tarist Seth Warren formed Okkervil’s
original incarni^on while still high
schoolers in New Hampshire. After
relocating to Austin in the late
1990s, they adopted their moniker
from a short story by Russian author
Tatyana Tolstaya (a descended of Leo
Pedim and banjo player Jonathan Meiburg
The debut EP Bedroom arrived in 1998, soon followed by the band's j
Stan Too Small to Use. Stats was the genesis of the Okkervil sound: swaying moody 1
punctuated by unexpected instrumental jobs, be it from
