T he second annual Sprockets Rim Festival, in
conjunction with AthFest 2005, is presented
by Rlm::Athens. The festival this year has
three events: the Sprockets Rickr show, an
eight-film collection of shorts; the Sprockets
Music «■ Video show, a judged music video com
petition along with a feature film presentation;
and the TeenScreen show, a showcase of movies
made by local teenaged filmmakers.
"Film::Athens wants to be a conduit for opportu
nities through membership and networking,*
says Kamala Lyons, Sprockets film Festival orga
nizer. The organization aims to accomplish its
goal by relying on almost 100 members, a group
that includes students, professionals and those
that fall in between.

Sprockets Ricks kicks the festival into full gear
on Monday at Flicker. From hilariously entertaining
vignettes to head-scratching documentaries and
experimental works, film::Athens has assembled a
lineup of diverse works:

SitiSrip
(Tom Pritchard, 2005, digital video, 2 minutes 30
seconds) This punny short laughs at indie film
makers in an ironic twist of roles. A movie crew
watches as one of their own desperately tries to
prepare for the next shot Snazzy editing and a
filmic look show that Pritchard and company have
deft skills.

seconds) To Stewarts disbelief, he's in the process
of sealing the deal with a cute girt at a local bar,
but things take a turn for the weird once a high
school football coach enters the scene.

Political and social commentary rules when the
Bible Belt meets Southern Gothic in this work that
takes us through three Georgia cities during
2004's election year. From Atlanta's ML Vernon
Baptist Church Christian Coalition rally to Resaca,
Georgia's Confederate Cemeteiy and the site of its
Civil War reenactment to the Warwick's Grits
FestivaL Local rockers Southern Bitch, The
Visitations and Grand Buffet add to the old-time
gospel, rock and hip hop soundtrack.

(Jason OrtrilU 2005, digital animation, 3 minutes
11 seconds) Written, modeled, animated and per
formed by Jason OrrilL Think somewhere between
"Space Ghost Coast to Coast" "The Daily Show"
and Charlie Brown features. This talk show spoof
featuring characters who "speak* with the sounds
of a kazoo, electric guitar and recorder—and have
something to say.

minutes) A woman replaces her dead husband
George with a look-a-like robot but her snoopy
neighbor is on to her. What happened to the real
George?

(Andrew Shearer, 2005, Digital-8, 40 minutes)
Yikes. A tale of a lover's rage, redemption and
final reconciliation told across a painful genera
tional divide. A young woman with dreams of
being a country music star must contend with an
overbearing mother and a freakish skin condition.
The soundtrack features an all-original score by
band Female Trouble.

(Stacy Childers, 2005, digital video, 93 minutes)
Shawn Mullins, whose hit 'Lullaby" reached the
top of the charts a couple of years ago, stars in
the feature-length film The Delivery Boy .
Chronicles, directed by Stacy Childers and written
by her brother Michael Childers. The film, their
first feature, has been shown at festivals in the
UK, Norway and California. If Steve Buscemi is
your patron saint nf the indie world, then you
might like the opening sequence. Shot on loca
tion in Atlanta by a Georgia-based crew, the film
features equally talented Atlanta-based actors.
The story is based on a legendary pack of food
delivery drivers who are breaking out of their
Bohemian-lifestyle jobs amid the current
American atmosphere of corporate greed govern
ment deceit and cultural paranoia. The; sound
track features music from The Swear, Bent
Chrystina Lloree, Disband, Ken Will Morton,
South City, St Somewhere and more. The Delivery
Boy Chronicles opens Music + Video, and a ques
tion and answer session with the cast and crew
follows the screening.

For the second year running, the 40 Watt dub
hosts the Music ♦ Video competition event. This
year's showcase, features numerous local music
videos. Among this year's 20 entrants is a video
for Cinemechanica's song Tm Tired of Paul
McCartney," directed by Josh Borger, winner of
last year's Best Musk Video judges' pick. Also back
for their second year as directors are Joe Guerzo
for Flood City Shootout* Kevin J. Hoth for
Japancakes; and Dan Aguar for Jackpot City. Dint
McElroy and Jeremy Long, the illustrators of
Flagpole movie cartoon "Rick Skinny,* will present
a Flash-animated piece titled 'Hulkster In
Heaven.* Audience members choose one winning
video and a panel of judges choose another; win
ners will be announced at the Flagpole Athens
Music Awards on Thursday. June 23 at the Morton
Theatre at 8 p.m. Videos in competition are:
