With strong roots in ^
classic American bluegrass, I
the Bam Rat Review takes
the genre to unconventional
places with fresh, mellow
vocals and chord progres
sions that could work just
as well In a contemporary
jazz ensemble as in the
Rats 1 jammy 'mustard
grass." The four members of \
the Review bring various r£££U ;
backgrounds and experiences to the group that blend well white stiU maintaining the integrity of
their individual contributions.
Their intriguing sound is, in part a product of Everett's Music Bam, a venue planted outside
downtown Suwanee, GA, that hosts a musical gathering similar in design, but larger in scope,
than Athens' own picking party at flicker. Scot1 Morgan, the "Papa Rat* is one of many estab
lished artists at Everett's, and sings lead and plays guitar for the Review.
One thing that's clearly evident the Rats have a deep understanding of, and love for musk.
Morgan and rhythm guitarist Chuck Sitero both play on dreadnoughts crafted by Morgan himself.
Mandotinlst Ian Newberry is a musk student at Georgia State University, majoring in jazz guitar.
Jody Hughes (banjo and fiddle) placed first in guitar at the Georgia Mountain fall Festival at
Hiawassee in 2004. Any of these musicians could stand alone and draw a crowd; a lade of ego
mixes them into a collective that carries them above what they could be alone.
Having bred a loyal fanbase at Everett's, the Rats are a band on the rise and are now
branching out to wherever they can take their music The/ve established thair own record label
for future releases, and look as though they're primed to run a tour that takes them beyond
Georgia. (David Commins] /*
