When Julia Jones (game "Bully*
beauty Alyson Hannigan) meets Grant
Fonckyerdoder (Adam Campbell.
'Commando Nanny*), their whirlwind
romance runs the gamut of ’date
movie* cliches. At least, it should
have The creators ot the Movie parody
franchises need to re-watch Airplane 1
in order to learn how to spoof a genre
Date Movie is essentially a greatest
scenes compilation that features little,
if any. ol its own jokes. Such stealing
of whole scenes horn movies people
have already seen does not constitute
humor and is tantamount to intellectual
property theft. Parody may be protected
by the fair use doctrine (thank the gods,
or we wouldn't have Weird Al). but Date
Movies celluloid collage ot familiar
romantic/ comedic moments tails to
fit the lour legal criteria (though no
expert. I did take a constitutional law
class). Imitation may be the sincerest
lorm ot flattery, but Date Movie makes
it the most craven lorm ol lazy comedy.
