Dave Matthews Band. '90s-jammy
sound (albeit with vocals leaning
towards Ben Harper), bul the music
is tight enough and the songs exhibit
enough brevity to land them more in
the breezy, melodic pop-rock genre ol
Jack Johnson.
PASSAFIRE (Wild Wing Cate) Bass-
heavy reggae-rock from Savannah,
working hip hop, dub and contempo
rary rock into the sound that comes
across like a soft-around-the-edges

SACRED HOLLOW (DTs) This new
band features local guys Brett. Dustin.
Skip. Ben and Ryan; normal ‘rock’
singing with some occasional screamy
intensity tops off early-'90s melodic
rock that incorporates some proggy
metal influences.

(DTs) Also known as S.T.A B.. this
Athens/ Lawrenceville group plays
mid-'90s-sounding. grunge-influenced
hard rock.
SPEECHLESS (Tasty World) Atlanta's
Derik Rinehart (drums). Paul Rusek
(bass). Robbie Hamit (keys) and Sean
Tonar (guitar) play cinematic, atmo
spheric and jammy instrumental rock
with a grooving rhythm section and
soaring, sometimes-jazzy guitar solos.
The band's new album is called Time
Out of Mind.

THE SIMPLETONES (Flicker) Lyric-
oriented folk tunes from these live local
musicians, playing mostly acoustic on
