topics, and don't be unkind, especially when it is
not called for.
On Saving Grace: good Brunches, nice atmo
sphere, parking, good food, just a tad too pricey
for the area, and the service has improved a bit
lately. You will never have to wait for a table as
in Athens, and the coffee is excellent, which is
not that easy to find, except in a few locations
downtown and BCB, not even in the fabulous
wannabe hippy republic of Athens, GA. (You
probably eat at The Grit and think it tastes like
food, don't you?)
P.S.: My apologies for insulting your taste in
food, but you must be ready to take it as well as
you dish it out. And my congratulations to the
Flagpole, I will still read it when I relocate, it is
a great publication. Resident of Athens for three
years, well traveled, on my way out to North
Carolina.

SAVING GRACE.6
To the fools responsible for hiring such a nas
ty, uninformed nut to review food offered at our
local eateries, I can only express total disgust. I
have had the pleasure of dining at Saving Grace
in Comer at least 15 times and have yet to have
any problem or complaint worth mentioning. I
am not used to such nasty and overly judgmental
garbage in restaurant reviews in this area. Does
your fool think she is in New York or is she just
a jerk? Seemingly she has a dislike for the own
ers. She clearly did not care about the truth or
the effect her nonsense might have on others.
Or was it malicious? Pity! I am very offended
as I consider myself a good judge of food. Your
loss, in my mind. Please dump her now so I can
continue to read my favorite local publication. I
am Todd Lister from Oglethorpe County. I drive as
far every time I leave my house as your so-called
critic drove to get to SG. To say that it is not
bob SALON
worth the drive goes beyond reality and again I
am offended.

I don't know what the weather was like on
that dark night when Hillary Brown made her
trip to The Comer Wilderness, but from the tone
of her review of Saving Grace Cafe, something
on her trip outside the Athens perimeter put
her in a bad mood. Otherwise, why bother the
readers of a restaurant review with details of the
multiple small towns you passed through on the
way to the restaurant (actually only two small
towns, but I will let that pass), the unmarked
streets you couldn't find (actually only one turn
is required, but it must seem like more after such
a tong journey), and the eight-foot strip of grass
that mimics a roadway (okay. I can't let that
pass without comment: how does one mistake an
eight-foot strip of grass for a roadway?)?
But I digress. My point is that despite all the
bad things that happened to Ms. Brown on her
way to the Cafe, she actually seemed to like the
food, the atmosphere, and the friendly staff—in
a begrudgingly half-hearted sort of way. Why
couldn't she just say so and get on with her life
inside the perimeter?
Which is why the regular customers at Saving
Grace Cafe have taken such offense at the
Flagpole’s review of our favorite restaurant. We
are pleased beyond expression to have fresh,
high quality, imaginative food prepared and
served by a friendly staff in a pleasant space.
We are proud of our restaurant. And most impor
tantly, to get there, we don't have to make the
long drive through multiple small towns with un
marked streets and eight-foot strips of grass that
mimic roadways.
