ALEX ORANGE (Wild Wing Cafe) The
native Savannah acoustic guitarist-
harmonicist Nathan Sheppard has long
been a fixture on the regional folksy
singer-songwriter scene; Alex Orange,
named after a song on Sheppard’s
2001 album Traveling On, is the new
full band.
PETER ALVANOS (Flicker) The
frontman for psychedelic pop band
Fabulous Bird performs a solo set
‘I call it solo-fi." says Alvanos ‘Pete
Ham meets Big Star-esque ballads *
Lead Me to the Troubadour is the name
of Alvanos' newEP 8:30 p m.
ANOTHER FIASCO (No Where Bar)
The reconvened Fiasco comprises
members of the Charlie Mars Band.
Lionzand Soul Kitchen coming
together to explore more traditional
rock territory and resurrect and modify
the Fiasco name. Last year's album
is called II Never Was Enough, and
tonight the guys will debut several
songs from their upcoming sophomore
album, out this spring.
BARONESS (Max Canada) The un
flinching sludge metal of Savannah's
Allen Blickle (drums). Summer Welch
(bass). John Baizley (guitar, vocals)
and Brian Blickle (guitar) finds a new
home on At A Loss Records, which last
summer released a split release from
Baroness and Unpersons.
THE BENJY DAVIS PROJECT (Tasty
World) Baton Rouge. LA. provides a
homebase for the Benjy Davis Project,
the rootsy acoustic folk-pop band trav
eling similar catchy paths as early-'90s
stalwarts Blues Traveler. Hootie & the
Blowfish and Spin Doctors.
CACHAQA (Amici) Playing Brazilian-
styled music, this new band features
Jake Mowrer (nylon-stringed guitar)
and Jim Coley (upright bass) of Hot
Club of Athens and Kane Stanley and
Ryan Wendel of Grogus. among other
groups, on percussion. Every other
Thursday.
DIEGO CATALAN (Flicker) Jim
Wilson, best known as a drummer
and percussionist for Sleepy Horses,
Mother Jackson and Don Chambers'
band GOAT, performs a solo set under
his stage name Diego Catalan 8 30
p.m.
JUSTIN MARK CAUDILL (Repent)
Solo singer-songwriter.
WESLEY COOK (Repent) From folk-
flavored theological wrestling matches
to Latin-flavored love songs, solo gui
tarist Cook has an effortless approach
to his music. About a year ago. Cook
released his full-length album We\e
Been Here Before.
DJ APPLEPAUL (Detour) Paul
Wilson. AKA DJ applePaul, takes up
the reins at the new downtown club,
spinning circuit and club house mixed
in with quirky dance songs and some
hot hip-hop remixes. Every Thursday.
DJ KURTWOOD (40 Watt) Man with
the vinyl plan. Kurt Wood spins an
early-evening set of garageadelic rock
and soul tunes from the '50s and '60s.
DJ RIX (Loft) Championing dance
favorites every Thursday. Atlanta's
DJ Rix favors breakbeat and hip-hop
mixes. He recently collaborated with
Louisiana's Trace on a mix called The
Decade: Trace & Rix.
THE DUMPS (Max Canada) With
Daniel Ray (Let's Surf, Exit 86) on gui
tar/ vocals. Jeff Rapier (Donkey Punch)
on bass/ vocals. Andy Hollingsworth
(Choptop) on guitar and Jason
Richardson (Donkey Punch. Exit 86)
on drums, The Dumps deliver angular
metal licks with lots of dual screaming
over slow heavy grooves.
TINOGARRIDO (Farm 255) The
frontman for Orquesta Grogus fo
cuses on classical guitar music from
Venezuela and traditional songs from
Cuba and Venezuela (for guitar and
vc!«e). Playing a dinner set from
8-10:30 p.m.
GASMASK & MATCHSTICKS
(Caledonia) The local trio of Alex (gui
tar/ vocals). Tom (bass/ vocals) and #
Drew (drums) pump out some classic
sounding hardcore and scream-filled
thrash rock. Debut album YerNot
Payin' For The Hours, Yer Payin' For
The Name out now. See p 35 for a re

the band.
HIBERNATION (Caledonia) Four-
piece punk band from Atlanta featuring
Jeff Rahuba of My Brother & Me
IMMUZIKAHON (Mercury Lounge)
Alfredo Lapuz handles electronics and
backing vocals for the local party funk
band Velveteen Pink, but he also dee-
jays as Immuzikation, featuring his own
grooving remixes 10:30 pm

THE LICKITY-SPLITS (40 Watt)
Energetic and upbeat. Tim Schreiber
fronts the nominally truncated band
formerly known as Col. Knowledge
& the Lickity-Splits. a rock band with
strong blue-eyed soul undertones and
heavy on the Farfisa Aaron Jollay
(bass, brass). Andy Sleek (keys) and
Mercer West (drums) round things out

LIONZ (Roadhouse) This local band
of positive groovers embarks on a new
batch of jam-flavored adventures, from
classic rock, blues, soul and bluegrass
to reggae, augmented by two full drum
kits The debut album is Stranger
Things Have Happened, and a new
album's in the works.
LONG LEGGED WOMAN
(Caledonia) Vaguely drony and mostly
noisy, the duo of Gabe Vodicka and
Justin Flowers piays music that's half
improvised, half composed, and re
cently put out an EP called 1 See Box,
and p. 35 for a review of a new local
comp that features the band.
MATT MOORE (Georgia Theatre)
Singer, harmonica player and former
OverflO frontman Matt Moore, now
based out of Nashville, aims for a feel
good Southern sound reminiscent of
the likes of Steve Earle. Neil Young and
other classic types.
MUSIC HATES YOU (Max Canada)
This brutal metal act has gained the
respect of those in town eager to raise
a fist against all that troubles them
High energy and higher volume from
loudmongers Noah Ray (guitar, vocals).
Zaxx Hembree (guitar). Forest Hetland
(bass) and Patrick Ferguson (drums).
Last year's album is the powerful Send
More Paramedics.
MIEKA PAULEY (Tasty World)
Extending the traditions of gospel. R&B
and classic folk. Boston-based Mieka
Pauley brings her street-performer
roots to the stage with a voice that sug
gests early-‘90s Tracy Chapman and
Sarah McLachlan stuff.
PERMAGRIN (Mercury Lounge)
Schooled in the New Orleans under
ground. drummer Louis Romanos (now
an Athens resident) and guitarist-com
poser Dan Sumner draw on influences
as diverse as street beats, jazz, bebop
and R&B, but the duo creates some
thing versatile, lyrical and dextrous
with its live electronic music. 8:30 p.m.
CHAO PERRONE (Tasty World) Used
to Dream, last year's album from this
Boston songwriter, features 13 direct
songs of emotional acoustic pop.
SWAMP APE (Caledonia) Heavy two-
piece bass-and-drums ‘doom drone*
outfit.
PHIL VASSAR (Georgia Theatre)
This country music artist was born
in Lynchburg. VA, but currently calls
Nashville home. See p. 34.
