noises into the realm of triohood.

Becky Brooks The catchy, ribald pop
duo will play brand-spankin’-new
songs and a deluxe Valentine’s Day-
themed set of cover tunes featuring
some surprise guests. “You don't have
to be lonely THIS Valentine's Day!"
KEVIN DEVINE (40 Watt) Bringing
to mind a variety of indie songsters,
Brooklyn's Kevin Devine sounds most
like a merging of Ben Gibbard and
Elliott Smith. Devine's new album is
called Pul Your Ghost to Rest, and
tonight he headlines backed by the
members of opening band Pablo.

STRAWBERRY JULIUS (Little
Kings) Following tonight's Valentine's
Day performance by local burlesque
troupe Effie’s Club Follies, your deejay
duo drops the sonic bomb with tunes
ranging from danceable garage rock
classics to girl-group stunners and
from nasty funk to sweet, sweet soul.
DJ SIZZLE (Loft) Spinning the dance
numbers every Wednesday.
FLAT EARTH SOCIETY (Caledonia)
An all-acoustic and extremely heartfelt
Bad Religion cover band led by Charlie
Taylor. Three guitars, one violin and
four-part vocal harmonies. A house par
ty favorite making its downtown debut.
TINO GARRIDO (Casa Mia) The lead
vocalist for Grogus performs solo at the
new downtown tapas restaurant, sing
ing songs from Cuba and Venezuela
as well as other more popular Latin
American songs. Musical styles will in
clude son, bossa nova and Venezuelan
joropo. 8:30 p.m.
JAMIE McLEAN BAND (Tasty World)
As guitarist for the Dirty Dozen Brass
Band, Jamie McLean is skilled in
funky, jazzy constructions. Fronting
his own band and backed by Carter
McLean (drums, percussion), Derek
Layes (bass) and Jon Solo (organ,
piano, keyboards), however, he delivers
dirty, blues-based rock on the album
This Time Around.

KOUFAX (40 Watt) Midwestern five-
piece rock band Koufax plays it hard
and fast on the 2005 album Hard Times
Are In Fashion. The driving, passionate
and bombastic New Wave-influenced
tunes should appeal to those looking to
satisfy a Depeche Mode or Killers fix.
LIONZ (Tasty World) This local band
of positive groovers embarks on a new
batch of jam-flavored adventures, from
classic rock, blues, soul and bluegrass
to reggae, augmented by two full drum
kits. The debut album is Stranger
Things Have Happened, and a new
album's in the works.

Busdriver is playing at the 40 Watt Club on Wednesday. February 21.
