- * Friday, April 20 Music Hates You, Darsombra, The Dumps Caledonia Lounge Guilt and grief. Darsombra doesn't so much start as it awakens. Stirring from dreams of ultimate uneasi ness, where nightmares are considered a ploy, and terror is cheap, Darsombra lifts itself out of a bed of doubt, and Darsombra straightens its back to a defiant height AU the muscles ache, all the nerves are bared, all purpose is over. Darsombra takes an auditory walk alongside the pilgrim of Dante's Divine Comedy. Brian Daniloski is the exiled prince of doom metal With his brother Jason, he created Meatjack, one in a handful of super-heavy bands that doesn't sound exactly the same as all the others, and nails the. advantages of bombast and low-end. But little good fortune befalls purveyors of discord, and Meatjack has been put on hold while the brothers explore other mu sical endeavors on their own. Brian Daniloski started his one-man experiments as SUCKPiG!, and then, as his vision grew, Darsombra was bom. He recorded the debut Darsombra record Ecdysis entirely by his lonesome, and it was released last year by At A Loss Recordings. And as you listen, Ecdysis brings you into sound dark and thick, and as weighty as Catholic guilt and grief. From the psychotic episode of "Thinning The Herd* through "Dies Irae,* you're delivered into a bruising frenzy of expertly composed intertwining melodies that are trying their best to hurt your feelings and dissolve your equilibrium. Yeah, my band Music Hates You is playing tonight as well, but Td be writing this even if that weren't the case. Daniloski brings this all to us live through huge speaker stacks and more effects than Mogwai, while maintaining the foreboding grin of the "touched" as his sounds disturb. [Noah Ray] continued from page 25 Nivea Dat Type Of Gurl, Rasheeda’s fourth album of bass-heavy, head-turn ing hip-hop, drops this coming June.
