RUSTY BRIDGERS & THE
Y’ALL BOYS (Melting Point Patio)
Watkinsville songwriter Rusty Bridgers
plays old-time country and dusty
bluegrass. backed by a rotating crew
he calls the YAII Boys. Tonight special
guest Larry Gillis joins in
TISHAMINGO (40 Watt) Hard-edged,
bluesy Southern rock lor real from
Athens mainstays Cameron Williams
(guitar/vocals). Jess Franklin (guitar/
keys/ vocais), Richard Proctor (drums)
and Chuck Thomas (bass). The Point
is the third full-length album, released
earlier this year
‘TUESDAY NIGHT JAZZ" (Farm
255) Every Tuesday, 7-10 p.m, the
downtown restaurant features jazz from
a revolving cast of regulars.
WIDESPREAD PANIC (Classic
Center Theater) Since its inception
in Athens in the mid-1980s, the
Widespread Panic gang has steam-
rolled the nation expanding notions of
what Southern music can be, swinging
from boogie-based jams to serious
rock and roll. Tonight’s the second of
a three-night, sold-out stand here in

PATRICK CAREY (Flicker) Patrick
Careys slow-rolling countryish pop is
marked by breezy, melodic sounds with
chiming acoustic and electric sounds
and vocal melodies Expect to hear
some songs otf Edible Orchids, the
upcoming release from his band The
Ginger Envelope, as well as some non
band tunes 8 30pm
DIEGO CATALAN (Flicker) Jim
W ison. best known as a drummer and
percussionist for Sleepy Horses. Mother
Jackson and Don Chambers' band
GOAT, performs a solo set under his
stage name Diego Catalan 8 30 p m.
DEAD CONFEDERATE (Caledonia)
The Atlanta rock group plays psy
chedelic Southern grunge." Petition
to the Queen is last year s expansive
rock album reminiscent of My Morning
Jacket. Southern Bitch and even Built
to Spill.
DJ SIZZLE (Loft) Spinning the dance
numbers every Wednesday.
TINO GARRIDO (Casa Mia) Tne
main vocalist for Orquesta Grogus
focuses on classical guitar music from
Venezuela, playing waltz and joropo
music but also Cuban son and fla
menco. Every Wednesday at 8 p.m.
GRANDCONTAINER & THE
MELLAFLO (Tasty World) With pro
phetic claims of sci-fi and fantasy tales,
this well-humored hip-hop duo from
Birmingham namechecks Barbarella.
elves and zombies on its new album
Journey to Destroy the Doombringer
Demon.
JERRY JOSEPH (Melting Point) The
singer-songwriter—and frequent col
laborator with Widespread Panic buddy
Dave Schools—has been touring non
stop in support of his 2003 double live
album Mouthful of Copper, and sports
a style that should be familiar to fans of
Tom Petty. Into The Lovely is the new
est album, and it sports a rhythmic, raw
and thick style.

LIONZ (Classic Center Courtyard) This
local band of positive groovers em
barks on a new batch of jam-fiavoreu
adventures, from classic rock, blues,
soul and bluegrass to reggae, aug
mented by two full drum kits. Tonight’s
the third of three outdoor concerts
preceding the Widespread Panic
shows; drum circles, deejays, dance
performances, etc 4 p.m.
MOONSHINE STILL (Georgia
Theatre) Formed in 1996 in Macon,
the popular band takes a little music
from the Southern rock pile, a handful
from the folk pile and a good helping
of the funky jams The new album is
called [Revolution Main vocalist Scott
Baston has retiree from live perfor
mance due to a viral infection, accel
erating the group's already established
evolution into electronica; he'll perform
at tonight's show, though, and this may
be his final performance in Athens.
NELO (40 Watt) Nelo has that Dave
Matthews Band, '90s-|am-rock sound
(albeit with vocals leaning towards Ben
Harper), but the music is tight enough
and the songs exhibit enough brevity to
land them more in the breezy, melodic
pop-rock genre of Jack Johnson

cities as it follows that band around
the Southeast Horn-driven and heavily
funky, the group serves up rubbery
jams and pays more than lip service
to the jazz influence on the jam scene.
