JAY GONZALEZ (Kingpins) Nutria
keyboardist-vocalist Jay Gonzalez has a
gig now as a ‘lounge singer’ and piano
player. Til be doing a bunch of '50s
and '60s crooner and rock-and-roll
stufl, British invasion favorites. 70s
AM radio hits, bubblegum classics,
some ‘yacht rock' for the Caledonia
crowd and maybe some Sinatra or Bing
Crosby.* Every Wednesday from 8 to

BRENNAN JOHNSON (Georgia
Theatre) Athens songwriter Brennan
Johnson takes things soulfully acous
tic, presenting his solo songs about
beaches, beer and girls. He also col
laborated with formerty local producer-
rapper Nobody Famous on the song
‘Meant 2 Be.*
KIP JONES (Boar's Head) The local
acoustic singer-songwriter is known
for his wide-reaching repertoire and
regutar-guy songwriting, and many
of Jones' own tunes split between the
reflective acoustic territory of Harvest
era Neil Young and the country-infused
rock of ‘80s-era Steve Earle.

Gears, The Marquee Blues features
members ol the Michael Guthrie Band
and The 60s playing classic British
blues-influenced rock like that of
Clapton and Cream. Every Wednesday

DAVIN McCOY (Georgia Theatre)
Playing acoustic pop. Marietta singer-
songwriter Davin McCoy last year
released an album called Forty Days

BLUE FLASHING LIGHT (Tasty
World) Local six-piece Blue Flashing
Light takes its name from a pretty
swell hidden track on an album from
the band Travis, and the guys aim for
the same Brit-styled emotional rock,
though results are decidedly more
mainstream-American. More info on
p. 33.
BROCK BUTLER & FRIENDS
(Georgia Theatre) The frontman of the
local group Perpetual Groove performs
two sets tonight: the first is a solo set,
presenting that band’s energetic jams
off albums like All This Everything or
Sweet Oblivious Antidote in an intimate
acoustic format, and peppering in
a number ol crowd-friendly covers.
Expect a crew of ‘special guests* to
join Butler.
JUSTIN BROGOON (Boar's Head)
Tallahassee, FL. native and current
Athens dude Justin Brogdon (ex-
Bluestring, Full Black Out) plays acous
tic covers and Tom Pettyish originals
in his solo sets, aiming for thoughtful
lyrics and emotional sounds.
CHRIS McKAY & THE CRITICAL
DARLINGS (Tasty World) Drawing
equally on '80s power-pop like the
Cars and earlier stuff like the Kinks,
frontman Chris McKay has a sharp
lyrical turn for every melodic offering
of his bandmates. Lineup changes have
expanded the band to a four-piece.

CHRISTOPHER’S LIVER (Mercury
Lounge) Guitarist-vocalist Christopher
Ingham (ex-Heroic Livers. Colostomy
Bag) and drummer-vocalist Laura
Swindall play acoustic pop music with
a lo-fi aesthetic similar to some of this
town's late-90s output Track down a
copy of Stop Apologizing, the duo's
debut recording.
DJ REBB (Detour) Atlanta's DJ Rebb
plays Top 40. hip-hop. progressive
house and other electronic sounds
prime for dancing. Every Thursday.
OJ RIX (Loft) Championing dance
favorites every Thursday, Atlanta's
DJ Rix favors breakbeat and hip-hop
mixes. He recently collaborated with
Louisiana's Trace on a mix called The
Decade: Trace & Rix.

performs a solo set of ‘hopelessly

LIONZ (Roadhouse) This local band
of positive groovers embarks on a new
batch of jam-flavored adventures, from
classic rock, blues, soul and bluegrass
to reggae, augmented by two full drum
kits. The debut album is Stranger
Things Have Happened, and a new
album's in the works.
POSITRAXION (Little Kings)
Featuring heavily finger-picked electric
guitars, this new local band draws
on classic rock and roll sounds and
features a none-too-subtle Dire Straits
influence.
RASTA BLANCA (Tasty World
Upstairs) Reggae covers and originals.
THELONIOUS (No Where Bar) This
bunch of guys—all current or former
UGA music majors—all came up from
Milledgeville to play funk-fused rock.
