Nick Light, Matias,
Ryan McDougall
Caledonia Lounge
This week, local song
writer Nick Light celebrates
the release of his new album
The World Forgetting by the
World Forgot, a follow-up to -
Nick Light
the 2005 debut The Absent
Parade. The disc sees Light
growing out of lighter emo-
acoustica, moving towards
more confident pop songs and fitting in with other like-minded young local solo performers
Nate Nelson, Nicole Matias and Allison Weiss (Nelson also played on the album, which served
as his first recording project as head engineer.)
Tm really proud of this one,” says Light. "The first one was like the result of four years of
the teenage, growing-up-with-an-acoustic-guitar thing. I feel like my writing and sound have
matured. I hope they have, anyway... I definitely got to branch out, musically. A lot more
time was put into this one.” Adds Light, "I lived at the Chase Park Transduction studio, it was
like my second home.”
Currently a student at Gainesville State College, Light says he's taking a break from classes
this semester to focus on promoting his new album [see review on p. 31]. Tm trying to get
out of the Southeast and tour around some different states,” he says. "Get outside of Athens.
Just kinda hoping to spread the world... doing my best, just trying. It's weird to concentrate
on the business end of things—booking shows, that sort of thing—when all I really want tc
do is stay at home and write songs and then play them.”
Light performs tonight at the Caledonia backed by a full band with local songwriter
and show-opener Matias on bass, Colin Hatmaker on guitar and Andrew Williams on drums.
Hatmaker and Williams are frequent collaborators of Light's, and contributed to the recording
of The Absent Parade. A Friday Sept 19 show at the Georgia Theatre sees Light go it solo and
acoustic, opening for young country sensation Taylor Swift [Chris Hassiotis]
