“Growing Up Famous”
The Library
For an artist who only poked
into Athens music's public arena
for a very short while, the
hip-hop community is making
a big deal out of Reggie Perry's
return to Athens this weekend.
Perry—a producer and rapper
who goes by the handle Nobody
Famous—produced a few ener
getic tracks, put out an under-
the-radar album called Passion
and then split for Los Angeles
earlier this year. “LA. is great!"
says Perry via email. *1 love it,
it was the perfect decision at
the perfect time in my life, and
I am more than glad I made the
move."
Since moving, he's partici
pated in a number of producer
contests and spent time im
mersing himself in the scene.
"Believe it or not, the L.A. Nobody Famous
hip-hop scene reminds me a lot
of the Athens scene," he says. "Supporting each other is what keeps a scene alive, and that
is *vhat I absolutely love about the Athens scene. I came out there and did my first show last
October for Hip-Hop Homecoming and ever since I was shown nothing but love and support
and still get that five months removed and on the other side of the continent! Athens is my
music home and my heart will always be in it!"
Nobody Famous headline's tonight's "Growing Up Famous," rapping over his own tracks.
Charlie P., of Atlanta electro group Random Rabbit, joins him for a few songs, as does local
singer-acoustic guitarist Brennan Johnson, rapper Son 1 and DJ Blaze under his alternate
moniker Johnny Le. Blaze also handles most of the turntablism for the night alongside fre
quent collaborator DJ Set It Off. Before Nobody Famous' headlining performance, though,
expect to see local rhymesmiths Son 1, C-Fre$h, Bear, B. and Elite tha Showstoppa also per
form their own material—it'll be an easy night to catch a wide variety of what Athens hip-hop
has to offer. "I have all the Athens hip-hop home team coming through to show support and
to do their thing," says Perry. [Chris Hassiotis]
LISTEN 2 THREE (Wild Wing Caf6)
Easy-going, sunny pop-rock trio out of
Savannah.
LONG LEGGED WOMAN (40 Watt)
Vaguely drorry and mostly noisy,
the duo of Gabe Vodicka and Justin
Flowers plays music that’s half-impro
vised, half-composed, and any given
performance is rarely like the band's
last one. The duo has expanded to a
quartet recently; LLW was also the win
ner of this year’s Experimental Music
Flagpole Athens Music Award. The
newest EP is called Newtown Nights.
MORNING STATE (Tasty World)
The debut EP from former Athenian
act Morning State is called Retreat!!!,

and mainstream camps. Part of Tasty
World’s 10th anniversary weekend;
see p. 26.

see p. 26.
Saturday, Sept 15
ABBEY ROAD LIVE! (Georgia
Theatre) Here come the sun kings!
The local cover band usually delivers
a start-to-finish performance of The
Beatles' Abbey Road and may likely
toss in another full set of high-energy,
mostly later-era Beatles rockers.
Tonight, though, they’re diverging into
peppery territory, presenting an all-out
live rendition of Sgt. Peppers Lonely
Hearts Club Band celebrating the 40th
anniversary of the album (though a
couple of weeks early). The guys plan
to perform Sgt. Pepper in its entirety
with original instrumentation: violins,
sitar. cello, clarinets, etc.
ABSYL0M RISING (Boar's Head) The

grass. funk, old-time country and rock
