Vigilantes of Love
so long that it never seemed likely. Mallonee has long been
playing solo, so this is a real treat. Technically, this isn't a
"reunion" because the band never really broke up, and it's
already plowing through 75 or so songs for a new album, too.
AthFest Special: In light of the fact that AthFest is currently
accepting submissions for the 2009 AthFest CD, and in consid
eration of the fact that they've personally engineered over 15
previously accepted tracks on various AthFest CDs, Eric Friar
and Asa Leffer are running a special for local bands. Until
Jan. 30, bands and performers can get six full hours for a
mere $100 at D.A.R.C. Studios(!). This is so hella inexpensive,
people. Almost ridiculously'so. To save set-up time, the studio
will leave a drum kit set up and mic-ed and their guitars will
stayed tuned and ready to use. Basically, just show up and
knock it out. I don't imagine there's any requirement that you
submit your stuff to AthFest, either, so get in on this before
it's all booked up. Drop a line to downtownathens@bellsouth.
net to reserve time or for more information.
The Power of One: Mary Joyce (Maximum Busy Muscle) will
debut her solo project named In Tongues on Wednesday, Nov.
History Lesson: Friends, fam
ily and fans of the late Athens
musician Danny Esposito will
be interested to know that some
Esposito archives have surfaced
on the web. The surviving mem
bers of one of Esposito's many
projects, The P.E.G. Band (named
from the first letter of each mem
ber's last name), have uploaded
some recordings onto their web
site including rarities going back
as far as 1989. P.E.G. Band mem
bers Michael Gossett and Frank Phillips continue to record
and play under this name. Dig deep over at www.thepegband.

V Not a Reunion: Either the bats have flown out of hell or
hell has frozen over or something, but Bill Mallonee has
announced that Vigilantes of Love will perform at the 40
Watt for the first time in six years Thursday, Nov. 20. No
one ever said they'd never play together again, but it's been
19 at the Flicker Theater & Bar. Also on the bill that night
are Sea of Dogs (featuring Emily Armond of Dark Meat and
Titans of Filth) and Melissa Colbert (Creepy) who will perform
a reported "epic piano jam." Joyce describes her material as
"quirky pop songs about filthy things and unrequited love." So,
if you're into either, then show up.
Gee Angel: Athens' own Adam Klein, self-proclaimed Jewish
Cowboy and world traveler, continues to hit the road with a
vengeance. Currently undertaking even more touring in
support of his latest album, Western Tales & Trails, Klein
will hit the entire East Coast, the Midwest, the deep
West and then head back south in December for a show
at Tasty World on Thursday, Dec. 4 for UGA Hillel's
Meltdown Party and Thursday, Dec. 11 at Decatur, GA
venue Eddie's Attic. In other news, Western Tales &
Trails has received much attention and Klein had the
honor of seeing it place as the fifth most added record at
Americana Radio when it entered the charts on Oct. 27.
Radio has responded in Australia and Europe as well, and
God knows Klein will go play every room with a micro
phone there, too. You just can't stop him. Please go give
your support via www.myspace.com/adamkleinmusic or

Get Well Soon: Flagpole recently got word that Bill
Kelliher of Atlanta-based metal band Mastodon has been
hospitalized in London as of Nov. 3 during the band's cur
rent "European Unholy Alliance Chapter'3" package tour.
As of press time, no further information was released
regarding the nature of his hospitalization, but Mastodon's
publicist says his condition "is improving." Mastodon has
derided to continue the tour as a trio, and the band seems
hopeful that Kelliher will be back on board for the headlining
tour of Europe beginning Nov. 30 in Utrecht, Holland. Keep
an eye on www.mastondonrocks.com as details are released.
