"Charlie Brown
Christmas”
Flicker Theatre
Good grief! Local musi
cians T. T. Mahony (The
Standard 8), Jeffrey Biter
and Adrian Ash are coming
together once again for a
themed night. Following
up last year's “Beautiful
Losers: The Music of Nick
Cave, Tom Waits and
Leonard Cohen," this year
the group has decided on
a Christmas tribute, tak
ing on Vince Guaraldi's Chartie Brown Christmas in its entirety. “I've always wanted to do
a Christmas show," says Butzer, "and, in my opinion, this is the best Christmas album
in the world." Mahony also shares a passion for this particular holiday set He says that
with all the relentlessly, if not oppressively, cheery music we hear this time year, Chariie
Brown Christmas seems to dig deeper. "This time of year means a lot of things to a lot of
people, for better and for worse," says Mahony, "and this record captures it better than
any other I can name. Plus, these songs are fun!"
This isn't the first time Butzer has paid tribute to the magic of Charlie Brown. Back
in the day, he used to play "Liruis and and Lucy" and "Christmas Time Is Here" in his
mother's band. So, it didn't take too long for these pros to get the set nailed down.
Mahony says it feels like the songs just "fell right off the bone." Adds Butzer, "...with
sheet music, copies of the CO, about four or five practices and a couple pizzas, we are
finally ready to show this!"
Anna McBath, who plays accordion and piano in Biter's band, will be handling the
vocals tonight
Also on the bill are The Standard 8, performing its usual set plus a few holiday tunes,
and Shauna Greeson and S. J. Ursrey of Hola Halo performing a set of Christmas carols
together. Snoopy and Woodstock have yet to confirm. [Michelle Gtenrat]
