40 Watt Club
An appropriate
show for a shit-kickin'
Wednesday night, this
bill promises more than
its fair share of the 40
Watt’s garage-band-
made-good weirdness for
the week (a tall order,
yes, but the potential
is undeniable). Though
newty formed and rela
tively obscure, “Generis"
band features some of . tone ween »
the finest musicians in
their fields, all of whom play with at least one other “well known" band. The formidable
fine-up boasts Dave Oreiwitz (Ween, Crescent Moon) on bass, Scott Metzger (RANA>
Particle {live}) on guitar and Joe Russo (Benevento Russo Duo, American Babies) cn
drums. And in fact, these three gentlemen also back Ween label-mate and friend Chris
Harford when his Band of Changes hits the road, so they've got plenty of experience.
If knowledge of Ween still hovers a bit off your radar, that's just part of its oddly
appropriate, albeit paradoxical, status as the most under-appreciated band around; but a
Ween show this will not necessarily resemble. Sure, there will probably be a lot of juve
nile rebelliousness and Sabbath-intemreted-by-weirdos-styie bar mitzvah punk, but there
will not likely be the depth of genre-spanning versatility that Ween has cultivated over
its 20-year career to temper out the set It seems Gener is meeting hard times head-on
and intends to sing his demons out So, assuming he's in good health, his troubles Will
.'.become our pleasure, because when.he's on, he is the show.
Athens' Timmy Tumble would be hard-pressed to find an audience more predisposed to
embracing outrageous pop songs in the vein of his own, were the show's headliner any-
buy 'em a drink, then ditch 'em fora
