Omni
Caledonia Lounge - 9 p.m. ■ $8-10
There’s no shortage of post-punk
bands flirting with success beyond
indie spheres these days. Out of the
wiry, angular and occasionally dreary
bunch, Atlanta trio Omni is arguably the
most promising with something still to
prove. The group, which includes former
Balkans and Deerhunter guitarist Frankie
Broyles and former Warehouse drummer
Doug Bleichner, is more danceable than
Parquet Courts and more lighthearted
than Preoccupations and Savages—a win
ning combination. Omni’s forthcoming
sophomore album, Multi-task, due in late
September, will certainly give the band a
chance to cement its place among a field
of taut peers. [Andy Barton]

Ten Volt Shock
Flicker Theatre & Bar - 9 p.m. • $5
Freiburg, Germany-based group Ten
Volt Shock makes no-holds-barred punk
music that will appeal to fans of bygone
noise-rock bands like Arab on Radar,
Mclusky and Big Black. The decade-
old three-piece, which shares its singer
and guitarist with cult German punk
act Kurt, continues to operate at full
speed, steadily releasing new material
and touring Europe and the U.S. to give
audiences a taste of its nervy, pummel-
ing sound. Doomy Swiss rockers YC-CY
have also traveled all the way to Athens
for Thursday’s Flicker show, which also
features local thrash standouts Apparition
and post-hardcore band Under a Sky So
Blue. [Gabe Vodicka]

In addition to Flip’s collection of
antique and artist-made items, the shop
hosts exhibitions that are celebrated
on First Fridays. This month features

tions by Michael McGill. Lawson, who
opened Flip with her husband, moved
from Athens to Holland in '87, where she
attended the Free Academy of Fine Art
and ran an art school of her own in The
Hague. Her sculptures range from pieces
in plaster, clay and found objects to wall-
bound works constructed from industrial
wood waste. Sandy Springs artist McGill
creates cartoon drawings that depict his
favorite interests: music, history, wine
and nightlife. [Jessica Smith]
