Sitting with the Elders
Lyndon House Arts Center ■ 1:30-3:30 p.m. - FREE!
Broderick Flanigan’s latest exhibition,
“Sitting with the Elders: Stories of Black
Athenians,’’ attempts to preserve and pro
mote the histories and legacies of notable
locals. Over 20 painted portraits are
included, like Mary Frances Early, Harold
Rittenberry, Fred Smith, Ovita Thornton
and Ed Turner. Several of the portraits
are accompanied by QR codes that can
be scanned to access interviews that
have been made available by the Athens
Oral History Project. During the closing
reception, Flanigan will describe his cre
ative process and the research involved
in preparing for the exhibition. After his
presentation, there will be a roundtable
discussion with elders from the commu
nity. [Jessica Smith]

Family Cornu
Creature Comforts • 4-6 p.m. • FREE!
An homage to the intertwining his
tories of art and video-game graphics,
“Family Computer: Familiar Interiors" is a
series of pixelated cyanotypes by Atlanta
artist Ashley Anderson. Building upon
a collection that was shown at Kibbee
Gallery in Atlanta last October, this
installment focuses on the landscapes
of classic video games. The pixelated
imagery of Nintendo worlds is translated
through a centuries-old photographic
process that uses varying sunlight expo
sure times to create silhouettes in shades
of blue. Supported by the brewery’s Get
Artistic program, Anderson will offer a
cyanotype workshop on the exhibition’s
closing day, Mar. 24, with pre-registration
available online. [JS]

Dawes
Georgia Theatre - 7 p.m. - $29.50
Los Angeles-based folk-rock sensation
Dawes released their sixth studio album,
Passwords, last June and have been tour
ing steadily since August. Made up of
brothers Griffin and Taylor Goldsmith, as
well as members Wylie Gelber and Lee
Pardini, the outfit writes and performs
songs drawing from personal experiences
in a way that is both mesmerizing and
emotional. The band’s “Evening With
Dawes" shows feature two separate sets
with an intermission, something the
group often does rather than feature a
touring opener. Every pre-ordered online
ticket purchase for Tuesday’s show comes
with the buyer’s choice of a physical CD
copy or digital download of Passwords.
