V1IB YOUNG FOEHN I,KTTEK-liOX.
C'i.ahkk, 8. O.—I was Interested in the article on
'Trolltable Bee Keeping” In the Southkbn Woki.ii,
and would like to know more about It. Iluivo twenty
two hives and would like to know how to keep them
from worms. We have a very good crop this year.
The flowers In our yard are as white as snow and
grow on green (roes. It anybody would like to have
some of tnem, let them writo to me.
Dobs Aulks.
Hazlkiiukht, Miss.—This is only a very bad little
brown-eyed boy, just six and a half monthsold, who
weighs about twenty pounds and has two teeth. My
papa takes your vuluable paper and I am always
delighted when he will let me have It to look at. I
know you think me quite young to write, so I will
tell you how it Is. I am sitting quietly (?) In my
muijima's lap, and she Is writing (or me.

Wavkhly Hall, (1a Tell Miss Willie Carter, of
Iowa, that I am a very little girl eight years of age,
and 1 live lu a thickly settled neighborhood and
have a good many nice associates. I have a nice
time going to school. I have a very kind preceptor.
Doesshogo to school? As for making presents for
boys, I do not know much about that, as 1 haven’t
but one small brother. I am so small I don’t know
much ubout making presents of any kind. I guess
she has a nice time at the “Cooking Club.”
JKNN'IK Beal).
A n iis.ii.sun , 8. C.—I am a little South Carolina hoy;
my brother, Jim Frank takes your paper, the
HottTIIKBN Wobi.I) ; we are always glad to get it. I
have a colt one yuar old named Blrt; I go to school
to my half sister, Maggie Andersou, I also taku music
lessons, which I don’t like a bit; I think that Is girls’
work. My half brother, Willie Anderson, lives In
Columbia; he is luarnlng to be a machinist which
I want to be when I get old enough. My brother
Thomp is going to be u farmer; he Is going to try for
the prise on corn. Claudk H. Bbkazkalk.
Kve’h Station. Oa.—I thought I would tell you of
our old turkey gobbler that set and hatched some
turkeys and chickens and was so proud of them, anil
of the turkey hen that batched some ducks and tries
to take care of them. My chickens and ducks follow
me ubout the yard und know their nunics. I also
have a little motherless calf that I raised on a bottle.
We go fishing sometimes but do not catch many fish.
I like to go to school und am learning music. 1’upa
takes your puper und I enjoy rcudlng the "Udlur-
Box” very much. Olivk Davis.
BLACKVILLK, 8. C\—As you allow me to give you a
description of the teacher’s expedition, I will begin
by saying; lie came down early on Saturday morn
ing. lie and his crowd sat down and ate breakfast,
us they did not eat before they came, It being so early
when they started from home. As soon us they had
Iluished they started to Ashing; all the rest of the
party were catching lish right along but the teacher
could notcutch any. He remained until about one
o’clock and caught one Hall all the time that he was
there. If It had not been for the rest of the party
they would not have brought but one Ash home.
They had with them a good old lislierman and he
was the cause of such good luck. We have some of
thu A nest plums that I ever saw. My mother raised
them and ulso some very due peaches.
Mabion Izi.au.
Sknatouia, Miss.—All subscribers, I believe, hnve
thu privilege granted to them to write and contribute
something to the “Young Folks Letter-Box.” 1 will
nut tell how old I am ns everybody tells their age. I
will let you guess by my letters. 1 live in a small
town of ubout one thousand Inhabitants, In the
Northern portion of Mississippi, uud about eighty-
six miles from Mumphts, Tennessee. I am not going
to school now. Our school wusout four or live weuks
ago. Our teacher required us to write compositions.
The young folks had a Ash-fry last Friday, and we
had a splendid time going down to the creek In
wagons. We spread our dinner on the bridge and It
wus just splendid. We took pistols, shotguns, tar
get guns and croquet Bets und had a delightful time
shooting and playing croquet. I would like It so much
If some of the boys und girls would correspond with
me und I would bo delighted to answer their letters.
I think It would be so nice to have an unknown cor
respondent. My papa lives In Griffin, Georgia, about
forty miles bolow where your paper Is published.
My sister and myself was out on a visit to him last
wluter. We live with our uncle and aunt. I will tell
you ubout my visit lu my next letter.
Mbnla Slaton.
lticu’s Stobk, S. C.-I am not so young as many
of your correspondents—I am near fifteen yArn old;
but I thought as your columns were open, I would
help Interest your readers. The Soutukbn World
Is very popular with us, und certainly must greatly
Interest the planter every where; In fact, all classes.
Entering our forests you will And fruit nenrly all
the year. There Is uo end to borrles, The whortle
berry abounds In all Its varieties, from the Torrid to
the Frigid Zones. Including the winter kind, they
arc to be found from May to April—eleven months In
the year. Sometlmesthelow-bush varieties lie black
on the ground, while the gooseberries often decom
pose all over our hills, stock not being sufficient to
consume them. They He In heaps, both the yellow
and tho blue kind. The whortleberry abounds In our
swamps and all over our hills. The blackberry, in
Its season, blackens our hedge-ways and old Helds;
even the road-sides are often enclosed with this pleas
ant fruit. But not to be tedious, acorns, from every
variety almost of oaks, abound. This past winter
our forests were Hlled with wild pigeons in pursuit of
them. Hickory nuts alBo abound, which supply food
for multitudes of nimble little squirrels, who dlsplny
their uucoramou activity as they spring from bough
to bough In their play. The pines, both long and
short straw, frequently besprinkle our forests and
fields all over with Its mast. This fruit calls forth
legions of blackbirds. Hogs fatten rapidly thereon.
It Is useless to mention the persimmon, tho red and
yellow haws, abounding everywhere and feeding
various animals from four to six months in the year,
I should bavesald In my last, thirty miles west, In an
fllr-llno direction from Columbia to Augusta.
C. J. 8.
Atlanta,Ga.-A few days ago I came across a copy
of the Boutubbn Wobld, a paper heretofore un
heard of by me. In looking through its columns, I
found It to be both Interesting and instructive, and I
felt that I had lost a great deal of pleasure und In
formation by not knowing of Its existence earlier. I
shall spend some time In Atlanta with my uncle,
who, I suppose, takes the paper, and when I leave,
shall certainly take It (or myself. Although a boy of
fifteen, I enjoy looking over the bright little letters
ol the young folks’ department, and U it Is agreeable
would like to enlist my name among them. I trust
tho fair young misses will not object to having a
little English gentleman take his stand beside them,
und so, begging pardon should It bo considered an
Intrusion, I lift my hat with an elaborate bow, and
step Into rank. I have written letters frequently to
a youth’s paper and have always been honored by
seeing them appear In print. My home Is not In
Atlanta, but far away among the grand old moun
tains of Kentucky, where I have a romantic country
home, which I think the most glorious place on
earth. My grandparents on my mother’s side, reside
In England, and I am looking forward with much
pleasure to a visit lam to pay them soon. My mother
has been making me many pleasing promises con
cerning this visit for quite a while; wheu It Is all over,
I shall write and tell the cousins how I enjoyed mv-
self there. I spend mos( of my time In school, but
have been taking holiday this year on account ol
weak eyes. I got very lonely sometimes for I have
neither brother or sister. I have been away from my
dear mother and home for six months, ami ulthough
I have been enjoying myself as much as a hoy could
away from home, I have been homesick two or three
times. My father has a large pond on Ills place and
a neighbor boy and myself have built a handsome
bout to ride In during holidays. We are always de
lighted to give any of llie girls a ride who will honor
us with a visit. Would—would—ahem! that Is—
would any one of the dear misses, about twelve or
thirteen years old, mind writing a letter loan awk
ward country boy like myself ? There! there! I
hnve made myself blush,su, with a reluctant good-by
to all, 1 will close, und wall until next time to tell
you huw I look. Allow me to sign myself.
