„h far from Atlanta is my home,
I Vi.it the SOUTHERN WORLD.
A in its printed climes I roam
A rnder its inky canopy unfurled.
1 iknnip is in the Texas Lone Star,
^ country beautiful, rich and great,
whirh is crowing since the war
' {l ie the grandest Empire State.
Here we have a nice, varying kind
of climate, water, wood and soil,
.„ A h ere a “mixture” of peoples find
From wealthiest lord to man of toil,
Our villages, towns and cities are
To us a beauty and a joy to own,
And the country, ah! it is so fair
Bedecked in nature’s wealthiest crown.
Here flowers, fields and forests rare,
Lend their enchantments to the eye,
While birds and beasts in grassy lair
Bask in the sweetness of our sunny sky;
Oh! to see it’s valleys and environed hills,
It’s mountains, and it's wide paraies,
Carpeted in fondest verdant frills
Presenting truly, a land of the fairies.
Our rivers are beautiful, though small
And very shallow, yet quite long,
go that boats on their wavey crests to haul
Cannot serve our commercial throng;
Yet, railroads and their inland kinds,
Belonging to progression’s car,
And wielded by the wisest minds
Have found a hold in the Lone Star.
Here, Art and Science hold their sway,
With brightest sceptre o’er our empire,
While schools and churches well display
Their power, the people to inspire;
The mind receives it’s due regard
From every source of highest worth,
And naught its progress can retard
To enlighten man from earliest birth.
We upon our newspaper press depend,
And a grand display of them we have,
Our noble Lone Star to defend.
And kceep it from an unknown grave;
The Press and Petticoats are our “ bosses,”
And deftly know how to ply the lash,
Only forgetting and forgiving ‘•crosses”
When a “ feller ” has the jingling cash.
Our merchants here are growing rich,
Yet, farmers seem to hold their own,
Still, when the two to wealth we hitch,
The merchant wears the crown;
Professionals and tradesmen all do well,
And the laborer is not 1* ft behind,
Only let their honest earnings tell
That none other but their own do mind.
Our little girls, and our little boys,
Are growing very wise and witty,
For here they have the grandest joy
In having a land that is so pretty;
Aye, here every one can life enjoy,
The rich, the poor, the young, the old—
lYith naught their Uessings to destroy
If proper merits they unfold.
Fish and game are disappearing
And in their stead the farmer’s food,
Its nourishing existence duly rearing,
Proviug to Texans to be as good.
Our winters here are mild and fleet,
That makes our climate very nice.
And when the spring we yearly greet
" e never ask the “ gods ” the price.
The stockman, now, has also gone,
Driving his mighty herds out West,
And left the farmers all alone,
Which we think is for the best;
And the “ warring ” element of fire arms
That the people hear so much about,
o with them as the cowboy’s charms,
To guard them on their cattle route.
This rhyme’s scroll I now must close
For (e a r my picture dims the eye,
bis style of letter to you I chose,
hat facts aud fancy might descry;
! e muse has been my friend,
its halo thrown around the task,
in this description that I have penned
That wears no falsehood’s friendly mask.

Macon, Ga., Jan. 25, 1884.
A week or two ago, a gentleman from one of
the Western States, accompanied by his invalid
wife and little daughter, enroutk to Florida,
was forced, on account of his wife’s exhausted
condition, to discontinue their trip and stop at
Macon, to allow her, if possible, to recuperate
While here, one of our best physicians was call
ed in, and after seeing her, informed her hus
band that her case was hopeless, and that she
would never reach Jacksonville alive. The hus
band almost in despair, by accident read in the
Telegraph d Messenger an account of the Won
derful Curative Powers of Brewer’s Lung Re
[ storer, called at our Retail store, stated his
wife’s condition and enquired if we believed
candidly that the medicine would be of any ben
efit to his suffering wife. Assuring him that
would certainly be of material benefit to her, he
purchased a bottle and in a few days called
again and stated that his wife was so much ben-
efitted that ho would leave that night for Jack
sonville, taking her with him. This is only one
[ of a great many such cases that comes to our
knowledge.
Respectfully,
T. A. CHEATHAM.

| In the blood will nearly always show itself In the
Spring. If It does not come in the shape of blotch
es, pimples, eruptions, etc., It causes a dull and

appetite, and a general letting down of the sys

sistance to help throw off this poison and clean
up the organism for the trying summer weather.
