“My wife became completely run

sick member of our household, and
entertained serious apprehensions as to
her future. She was languid, pale, ut
terly exhausted, without appetite, and
stacles, which has characterised her
business men, must account for the al
most phenomenal growth and prosperity
the city. Study the career of any of
our successful business firms to-day and
you will see that their success has been
due to a strict adherence to business
principles—energy and push rather than
the advantage of education or pres ige.
Even our largest business houses, with
but few exceptions, commenced upon a
very small scale, and have now but lit
tle capital invested except what was
made in the business.
We cannot better illustrate this than
by referring to the career of our young
friend and neighbor, W. C. Dodson, the
ob printer and dealer in, printers’ sup
plies at No. 33 Broad street. He was
among the first business acquaintances
the proprietor of the Soutiikrn World
made when he came to this city some
thirteen years ago, and the high opinion
of his integrity and capacity then form
ed has nevei for a moment been shaken.
He had but lately removed to the city,
and after several years of arduous la
bor as a journeyman which came near
seriously impairing his health, was
striving in a small way to establish a
business of his own. Without capital,
without influential friends, without a
previous business training, with noth
ing to rely upon except his own labor,
he has all these years toiled on encour
aged only by the.conviction that to de
serve success was the surest way to gain
it. That he has at last succeeded as he
deserved to succeed, we take great
pleasure in chronicling, that he has built
up a business of Which anyone should
be proud every citizen of Atlanta knowB.
His printing business is second to but
few in the State, while his supply depot,
but lately established, is meeting with
a success beyond his most sanguine ex
pectations. He now sells printing ma
