Kappa’s Scholarship Fund
at SSU Reaches $20,000

The Mark C. Clayton-
Kappa Alpha Psi Endowed
Scholarship at SSU reached its
projected goal of $20,000 on
July 30,2008 when Dr. Earl G.
Yargrough, president of SSU,
accepted a check from repre
sentatives of the Savannah
alumni chapter, Kappa Alpha
Psi Fraternity for $2,000. The
scholarship was established in
2004 with an initial endow
ment of $10,000. According to
records from the university’s
Office of Advancement, Mr.
Mario Gray, senior, was the
recipient of the scholarship for
the school year 2007-08.

Council of Negro Women,
Flaitian Empowerment for
Life Project in Augusta and
Macon, Morehouse School
of Medicine Employee
Scholarship Fund, as well
as smaller, more intimate
occasions such as corporate
events and birthday cele
brations. Whatever the
event, the group always
gives a performance that
receives rave reviews from
all that have the pleasure of
them.

A native of
Savannah, Saussy is a
1987 graduate of Alfred
Ely Beach High School.
She is married to Michael
Saussy, Sr., and they are
the parents of two daugh
ters, Shakirra, age 20, and
Shantel, age 16. They
have one son, Michael,
Jr., age 19, and a one year
old grandson, Michael,
III. The family attends
First African Baptist
Church.

The Savannah Sankofa Male Chorale
“Sponsor-A-Youth” Campaign
The Savannah
Sankofa Male Chorale is a
new singing group to our
city. The main focus of the
chorale is to identify musi
cally talented at-risk males
between the ages of 13-18.
The organization's com
mitment is to provide char
acter education which
instills Christian and moral
values; stresses discipline
and hard work; helps par
ticipants in making good
choices; develops good
interpersonal skills and
self-esteem; and empowers
young men to be produc
tive citizens in our society,
“using music as the moti
vator.”
The talented young
men, who were recently
featured by WTOC as Top
Teens of the Week”, have
been asked to perform on
the Bobby Jones Gospel
Show in Nashville,
Tennessee in September.
The organization is seek
ing support from all our
friends in the community!
Please support us by spon
soring a young man to
Nashville where they will
be featured as “New
Talent” on the Bobby Jones
Gospel Show. The taping
for the young men will be
September 12-14, 2008.
