Cornish Completes Law School
City Officials Welcome Sushi-Zen
to MLK/Montgomery Corridor

Cornish recently graduated
from Vermont Law School.
Cornish, 26, is native of
Jacksonville, Florida but cur
rently resides in Savannah.
After graduating from
Ribault Sr. High School in
2001 she came to Savannah
and enrolled at Savannah
State University in August of
that same year. During her
junior year at SSU, her par
ents relocated from
Jacksonville to Savannah.
While at SSU Cornish
was a three-sport athlete par
ticipating in volleyball, track
and softball. A magna cum
laude graduate, she finished
SSU in 2005 with a political
science degree and education
minor and a concentration in
public administration. Along
the way, she was a peer
counselor, Junior Class
President, Sophomore Class
Treasurer, a member of
Sisters Striving for
Excellence, Iota Phi
Lambda, Inc., Miss Black
and Gold 2002-2003, a resi
dent assistant for three years
and First Attendant to Miss
SSU 2004-05. She also vol
unteered at Spencer
Elementary School and
Hubert Middle School.
Cornish focused on
criminal and family law
while at Vermont.
While attending law
school she was an ambassa
dor, member of the women's
rugby team, the women's law
group, the Black Law
Students association where
she served as President of the
Vermont Law Chapter 2006-
2007, Parliamentarian of the

for her work targeted at rais
ing awareness of Domestic
Violence and was awarded
the Deans Leadership Award
at graduation for a graduate
who has displayed outstand
ing leadership at school and
in the community, Who's
Who Among American
Colleges and Universities
2006 and 2007. She volun
teered with Habitat of
Humanity in Bilks,
Mississippi in March of
2008.
Cornish was also a
Schweitzer Fellow which is
an organization that allows
students to create a program
that they are passionate about
and implement the program
in the community/ my pro
gram was raising awareness
of domestic violence
amongst the youth.
In July 2009, she will
go to Virginia for officer's
school and military law
school. She will be a part of
the US Army's Jag Corp
Program, an attorney's pro
gram for the army. Currently
she is back in Savannah,
helping in her mother's busi
ness, MaRandys.
Cornish adds that she is
willing to help pre-law stu
dents who aspire to get into
law school. She can be

Sushi-Zen located at 30
Martin Luther King, Jr.
Blvd. hosted a grand open
ing and ribbon cutting cele
bration on Tuesday,
December 16, 2008.
Sushi-Zen specializes
in Fine Japanese Cuisine and
is located in the heart of
Savannah. Representatives
from the City Council, the
City of Savannah, the
Savannah Downtown
Business Association, the
Martin Luther King, Jr.
Blvd/ Montgomery Street
Business Association, the
Small Business Assistance
Corporation, and the
Savannah Development and
Renewal Authority served as
featured speakers at the
event.
Previously, Sushi-Zen
was located at 41 Whitaker
Street, and once their lease
ended the owners decided to
relocate to Martin Luther
King, Jr., Blvd. With their
new and convenient loca
tion, the owners and staff at
Sushi-Zen “are hoping to
make new friends in the
area” as well as see familiar
faces of their already estab
lished customer clientele. A
Fa9ade Improvement
Program was used to
improve the building. The
loan was administered
through the SDRA's Fapade
Improvement Program.
Sushi-Zen represents a
growing number of new
businesses that contribute to
the revitalization of
Downtown Savannah. Since
2000, 172 new businesses
have opened, generating 785
new jobs and approximately
$329 million in property
investment within the Martin
Luther King, Jr. Boulevard/
Montgomery Street
Corridor.

to host Open House for Parents and Students
Johnson High School's
prestigious International
Baccalaureate Program will
be hosting its annual Open
House for parents and stu
dents who are interested in
applying for admission to the
Program for the 2009-2010
school year. The Open House
will begin at 6:00 PM in the
school’s auditorium. Johnson
is located in Thunderbolt on
3012 Sunset Blvd.
